I believe that the right to personal firearm ownership saves many lives, and in many cases the lives of those who do not even own weapons.

Occupied residences are made less attractive targets of crime due to the possibility of encountering buckshot and other worrisome projectiles during a break in. Fewer people are put into the position of dealing with a criminal who might not be squeamish about committing battery, rape, kidnapping, or murder along with his theft because criminals do not know if you own a weapon or not, and the possibility exists. The wicked seem to value their own hides at least as much as the innocent do. They prefer not to take the chance of getting shot.

I think that the fear of possibly encountering an armed homeowner that general gun ownership rights has created saves numerous innocent lives. Theft goes on, as usual, but because occupied residences hold the possibility of an armed defender, the criminal is shifted into preferentially choosing targets where goods and not human life are at jeopardy. It sucks that stuff gets stolen. It would suck worse if criminals felt safer breaking into houses when people were home and putting those people at risk of harm or death.

There was once a time when people could keep their doors unlocked and felt safe walking the streets of the inner city. Guns weren't the impetus for this feeling of security... I honestly don't agree that its guns that are keeping people from being burglarized in most cases. I honestly don't think that a criminal (and I've known some in my time), stops to consider whether someone has a gun before they commit the crime (unless they're robbing a place that sells drugs). I'm sorry...

What about a guy bursting into an office building/school/church/whatever stabbing the crap out of everyone, undefeated? Sure if the latter was attempted, the attacker would be killed quickly?
I'm not denying knife crime exists. But how many deaths from guns compare to deaths from knives? Perhaps we should collect all the guns on the planet, legal or not, send them into a space ship, and rocket them through the galaxy. Or drop them in a desert and set of a nuke.

There are a lot of cases where a nut goes after people with a knife or an ax.

I would rather pull out a gun and shoot a gun or knife wielding nut than attack that nut unarmed.

People who want to kill other people will do it with what ever they have handy. If they don't have a gun they will use bombs, knives, bow and arrows, blunt objects, poison, etc.

Maybe you could just move to a deserted island where nobody can ever hurt you. As for me, I rather have the option to defend myself if I wish.

If you really want a better world, then go spread the gospel and convert people to Christianity, and pray for Jesus to come soon. That is the only way this world will get better. When Christ comes back and makes the world new again.

There has been people being grabbed and stabbed mutiple times. There has also been people ran down by a car. So yes, in essence there has been drive by knifings.

As I recall... everybody who has busted into a school and started firing has died either by their own hand or by police bullets.

Doubtful, it will take police some time to respond and to actually figure out what is going on. It is very well possible that the stabber could escape while all this is going on.

And if you make guns illegal... do you really truly think that criminals will be unable to get ahold of them? Do you really think that knife crimes will not rise? The question is... how far do we go? Do we ban knives, cars, bats, and clubs too?

I guess you are under the delusion that in 1000 AD, before the inventions of guns, the world was peace loving and no wars or murder ever took place? I want less violence and death too, but what you are doing is like cutting of the top of a weed and pretending it will not grow back, you need to dig into the ground and take it out by the root. Bringing down violence and death around the world will not be a quick fix that banning guns would magically bring about, you need to dig into the very roots of society in order to bring down violence and death.

Had to comment on this asit isn't the first time I've heard it. But the answer is yes. Back in 2003, in the area in and around Matsuda, Japan they had there was a series of “drive-by stabbings” in which at least one pedestrian was stabbed to death. Other than that there have been numerous cases of people swinging baseball bats, pipes, golf clubs and even machetes from moving cars and trucks to assault victims.
