Thought this was interesting."Only friendliness produces friendship. And we must look far deeper into the soul of man for the thing that produces friendliness." G. K. Chesterton

Re: Ancient Portraits
Neat. It is always good to put a human face on our history.

Re: Ancient Portraits
Very neat. Some of those paintings give the Renaissance artists a run for their money. Looked like a lot of people wore eyeliner back then too

Re: Ancient Portraits
I did notice that none of the portraits consisted of any obvious mosaics, and there are numerous examples that could have been included such as the so-called
“‘Mona Lisa’ of Galilee” and many lesser known ones like this one from Pompeiior this one from modern day Turkeyor even this medallion

Re: Ancient Portraits
Wow. Thanks.
I'm glad that person in Turkey is still doing mosaics like that. We need to preserve that artform....the compass of existence held more than my text-books had revealed, more than I had ever dreamed of. Re: Ancient Portraits
Oh. No prob.
Well, I'd still like to see a revival of those sorts of mosaics....the compass of existence held more than my text-books had revealed, more than I had ever dreamed of. In short I lost my superiority, and this, though I was not then aware of it, is the first step towards finding God.-A.J. Cronin
