      Was Jesus Resurrected?

      Hi,

I'm wondering if anyone has looked into the arguments for Jesus' Resurrection and if they have some rebuttals. I've been trying to sort this out but have found that it is a difficult and often confusing issue.

      Re: Was Jesus Resurrected?

They usually involve assuming everything in the Gospels are true except the actual miracles, then argue that the miracles are a better explanation for what happened when [miracle here] sections are reached.

The other common option is to claim the resurrection has some documentation at all, and since there isn't any similar documentation saying the opposite we have to just accept it. Nevermind how many other things we'd have to accept by applying that rule outside the context of the resurrection.

The more honest and thoughtful Christians will simply admit the resurrection is an article of faith, with evidence they accept because of their overall Christian faith. Unfortunately that doesn't stop a lot of less honest or less thoughtful Christians from repeating 'prove the resurrection' kind of arguments. After all, it probably does succeed in tricking some people into becoming Christians.

      Re: Was Jesus Resurrected?

How could Yahweh have resurrected His son, himelf and also the Holy Ghost, if not by the magic of let there be? So, Christians think that rational persons should accept what cannot by nature be? How could a disembodied man work , and how could there be such a mind without the body that is a brain? It takes the self-brainwashing of faith, the we just say so of credulity to accept the Resurrection.
Why not accept the resurrection of Apollonius of Tyana? Yeshua is just another savior-god and miracle monger, a man of his times. All the religions of the Roman Empire were unique, born in a superstitious milieu. Only by force of arms and no freedom of religion could Christinsanity survive!

      Re: Was Jesus Resurrected?

Resurection has a long history probably first asserted by the various sun worshiping groups. They tracked the sun and at the soltices noted that the turn from the lowest point and from the highest point took three days. Thus the artifact about dead and three days later rising. (I always was confused about how crusifiction on Friday and rising Sunday morning amounted to three days)

Some scholars read Paul as never believing in an actual physical resurection. Robert Price does a very good work pointing to the actual greek and hebrew text of making this case.

Remember, it is very difficult for humans to accept dead and gone. Resurection prevents Christians from ever having to deal with this. Quick answer, solves the problem, don't care if it's a mystery. Because they want to participate in resurection, they certainly don't want to find out its all a bunch of bunk. Destabilizes the foundation of comfort.

And I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and in the sea, and all that is in them, saying, 'To Him Who sits on the throne and to the Lamb be blessing and honor and glory and might forever and ever!' Lightbulb Re: Was Jesus Resurrected?

My friend Zorathruster states the truth.
Now, iI'd like for this one time some theists to answer our points as we should not talk past each other in that what we say is defeasible and we want to know why they rationalize rather than try to reason on this matter and others.
They would have to overcome the presumption of naturalism to do so; that is a tall order! That requires logic and evidence rather than the assumption of a miracle.
Or, rather they could answer us at a mutual thread.
Logic is the bane of theists. Fr. Griggs rests in his Socratic ignorance and humble naturalism.
