Democrat Dan Quayle: vote for Obama cuz he's black
http://www.citizen-times.com/apps/pb...D=200880914028
I remember the days before Obama electing a running mate. Conservatives were practically begging Obama to pick Biden but figured no way in hell it'd happen. It did.Biden said the policies of running mate Barack Obama make his presidency even more urgent and declared this to be the most important election that any living person has seen in their lifetime. But he particularly singled out the meaning of electing someone who is black.
"That will be a transformative event in American politics and internationally," Biden said. "That all by itself will be significant.""Years ago, I mean decades ago, I read a quote about politicians performing quid pro quo favors for campaign cash, and whether or not we could prove it. The guy who was quoted opined that it was difficult to determine. He noted that in many cases, the payoff might not take the form of votes on legislative action -- those might be detectable, and so are avoided -- but could take subtler forms, like the question that is never asked at a hearing.
The media's doing a terrific job of not asking questions it doesn't want to know the answer to. It doesn't ask these questions in bulk, and the great volume of questions it doesn't ask makes it cheap to not ask questions.
And it passes these savings on to you, the customer." Ace

Would it not be significant in a nation that is still working through its bitter history of racial tension if a black man was elected to the that nations highest office?

I agree with you. But I also don't think Biden was suggesting such a thing. In fact, all he said was exactly that, that it would be "significant."

Re: Democrat Dan Quayle: vote for Obama cuz he's black
What would be significant is if the historic election of a man who just happened to be black turned out to be a huge mistake for the country. Black or white, Barack Obama's ideals are significantly misguided at best, and devastatingly destructive at worst...
"Then I looked, and I heard around the throne and the living creatures and the elders the voice of many angels, numbering myriads of myriads and thousands of thousands, saying with a loud voice, 'Worthy is the Lamb Who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and might and honor and glory and blessing!' And I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and in the sea, and all that is in them, saying, 'To Him Who sits on the throne and to the Lamb be blessing and honor and glory and might forever and ever!' And the four living creatures said, 'Amen!' and the elders fell down and worshiped. [Revelation 5:11-14, English Standard Version]
