Xen
Anybody here have some real world experience with Xen?
I love that now we have a free and open source virtualization solution that seems to work really well. Especially since it will do live migrations. Makes me want to build two computers for the sole purpose of setting up Xen and ripping the power supply out of one of them....

Re: Xen
I didn't realize that Xen supported live migration now.
I'm gonna go check out if there's a hardware compatibility list I need to be aware of. :)In the grave they chose to make their beds

Re: Xen
It has for a while, I read a tutorial from 2006 that showed how to set it up. Made me wish I still had those old computers in my closet to play around with.

Re: Xen
I've tried Xen a bit on Fedora 7, and had some trouble, the xen kernel had some problems. It might work better now for me, but I'm still using VMware.

What kind of problems were you having?

Re: Xen
I thought you might ask! My memory is a little vague, but I seem to recall it was bootup problems and I couldn't create a virtual machine and then it wouldn't work with VMware. It seemed like a work in progress then--but it might be better now.

Re: Xen
Probably. VMWare is certainly king of the virtualization space and they have a really great product. But it's nice to see some up and coming competitors that can push them to be better.
I've always been fascinated by virtualization. It's a really cool idea. I'm looking forward to see how things play out over the next few years. And it's really great to see companies like Intel and AMD take it seriously and make virtualization a big part of their chip designs.
