That's not really surprising. The military is usually quite red.

      <Sarcasm>

Because they aren't "smart" or else they would never have joined the military in the first place. They need to be protected from themselves

This is a fair warning to those sarcastically impaired the preceding text was written in jest.

You may be sarcastic but that is indeed the way they think.

So are you saying Rep.'s are more patriotic than Dem's? More of them sign up to defend the country? Or do they get that way after?

Shadowmaster's observations, of those he has met, is that they are generally more religious and generally more conservative.

No, I just said exactly what I wrote. The military is far more republican than democratic. I never ventured into speculating as to why.

Because they are generally more religious and conservative. They mostly hate liberal attitudes.

Re: So who does the military want for its commander in chief?

I'm one of those "blue" folks that wear...well....blue. I'm a soon to be Air Force officer (May '09), and a lowly E-3 in the reserves until I finish my degree.

I was surprised by the numbers showing more enlisted folks voting Obama than officers. In my experience, officers tend to be less conservative than enlisted. Maybe its the degree that makes them that way? Economic class? I'm not sure.

But as to the military in general being quite Red, I would bet that it is the image of anti-war protesters that causes that. I'm against staying in Iraq, and think the invasion was a horrific mistake. But even if I wasn't in the military, I would NEVER be caught dead at one of those dispicable anti-war rallies.

Most Americans are against continuing our involvement in Iraq because they see it as a huge cost with no benefit to our national interest. Most Americans are NOT anti-war, they are just anti-stupid and the Iraq War is stupid.

The anti-war crowd (which liberals get unfairly and uniformly dumped into by many) on the other hand, are actually anti-military and anti-war in general. That 'vibe' gets attached to liberals, therefore the military's reaction is to overwhelmingly vote Republican.

That is my take on it anyway.

I think Obama's statement when he opposed the Iraq war was very clever, "I'm not against wars, I'm just against dumb ones."

"Years ago, I mean decades ago, I read a quote about politicians performing quid pro quo favors for campaign cash, and whether or not we could prove it. The guy who was quoted opined that it was difficult to determine. He noted that in many cases, the payoff might not take the form of votes on legislative action -- those might be detectable, and so are avoided -- but could take subtler forms, like the question that is never asked at a hearing.

The media's doing a terrific job of not asking questions it doesn't want to know the answer to. It doesn't ask these questions in bulk, and the great volume of questions it doesn't ask makes it cheap to not ask questions.

And it passes these savings on to you, the customer." Ace

Yes, and that's why I voted for him. But I bet if you asked a random service member who doesn't follow politics very closely (most Americans don't), they would be completely unaware of any nuance to Obama's views.
