Our church is mostly casual (lots of t-shirts). But I wear a jacket and tie (and a waistcoat. Men should never wear a tie without a waistcoat. ). Because I like it. Only some other older gentlemen dress more formally. One day we were running late getting the kids ready for church and I didn't have time for the tie and such, and after church an older gentleman approached me and (in a friendly manner, not accusatory/condemning) asked where my tie was, because "I don't want to be the only one wearing a tie." So it's possible that by dressing up, you make some other people feel more comfortable who also want to dress up.

In Advent and Christmas seasons I like to go Victorian, with an ascot and a top hat. I also have a beard, and the first time I dressed like that to church, around Christmas, some kids came up to talk to me after church thinking that I was dressed as Abraham Lincoln.
