CNN’s Don Lemon has been entertaining all sorts of theories about the missing Malaysian Airlines Flight 370, including the chance something “supernatural” happened, but on Wednesday night, he actually asked panelists about the possibility a black hole was involved.

Lemon brought this up along with other “conspiracy theories” people have been floating on Twitter, including people noting the eerie parallels to Lost and The Twilight Zone, and wondered, “is it preposterous” to consider a black hole as a possibility?

The global search for missing Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 has its best new lead, with possible debris spotted in water west of Australia.

Military aircraft and merchant ships are racing to a position in the southern Indian Ocean about 2500 kilometres southwest of Perth, where a satellite identified two floating objects.

Australian authorities say they are possible remnants of the Boeing 777 that went missing on a March 8 flight from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing, carrying 239 people.

ABC News in the US had reported that a flight crew scouring the southern Indian Ocean had been getting radar hits of "significant size," indicating something lurking below the water's surface, but the US Navy said this was not linked to the Australian announcement.


John Young of the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) was cautious not to raise hopes, saying the satellite imagery shows "a sort of blob" with no features to distinguish it as aircraft fragments.

"It's probably the best lead we have right now but we have to get there, find them, see them, assess them to know whether it's really meaningful or not," the emergency response division manager said.

Relatives of passengers and crew have been told of the "heartbreaking'' news that flight went down in southern Indian Ocean.

Moments before the Prime Minister's press conference, officials from Malaysia Airlines sent an SMS text message to the families of the passengers on board when the plane was lost which said: "We must now accept all evidence suggests the plane went down in the Southern Indian Ocean".

"Malaysia Airlines deeply regrets that we have to assume beyond any reasonable doubt that MH370 has been lost and that none of those on board survived," the message read.

If there's no other option, what's better: letting them find out first before the PM does the press conference, or letting them find out afterwards?

The airline should have assigned each family a support person. That person should have told the family, in person prior to the PM doing the press conference.
