Does the Eastern Orthodox church reject the book of Revelation?
I heard someone on here saying that the Eastern Orthodox church supposedly rejects the book of Revelation and doubted its authenticity partially on the fact that its author used "barbarian idioms" and he said that it's still not publicly taught by the EOC either.
So does this mean that Revelation is written like "Ooga booga! Me see Jesus. Jesus kill Satan. Satan taste good roasted!" or something like that?

While it is true that the Book of Revelation was one of the last books to be recognized, it is fully canonical. It just is never used in the Orthodox liturgies.

It is never read in the Liturgy. But looking at Revelation 4-5 and celebrating the Liturgy, one can see it clearly.
"Then I looked, and I heard around the throne and the living creatures and the elders the voice of many angels, numbering myriads of myriads and thousands of thousands, saying with a loud voice, 'Worthy is the Lamb Who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and might and honor and glory and blessing!' And I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and in the sea, and all that is in them, saying, 'To Him Who sits on the throne and to the Lamb be blessing and honor and glory and might forever and ever!' And the four living creatures said, 'Amen!' and the elders fell down and worshiped. [Revelation 5:11-14, English Standard Version]

The Syrian Orthodox Church rejects Revelation IIRC, but they are not part of the EOC.
I think the problem Orthos have with Revelation is that they consider it a bit of a sealed book and so easy to misunderstand/spiritually damage yourself while reading that it's better to not even try unless you're very mature. But they do honor it as a book of Scripture.Last edited by Kelp; November 30th 2008 at 12:22 PM.

I remember reading that Bruce Metzger said that some parts of the Syrian church reject it today. If it was the entire EOC, I'm sure he would have cited them instead of remnants of the Syrian church.
The right of way is a wild goose chase. It makes you wonder if shooting for stars is like darts in the dark.

Yes. Of course the EOC has the same NT that the rest of Christianity has. The Revelation (Apocalypse) was accepted in the second century by those like Justin Martyr and Irenaeus. The first rejection of it came from Gaius (Caius), a churchman in Rome under the episcopate of Zephyrinus (199-217). He and the alogi claimed it and the Gospel of John were written by the heretic Cerinthius. Later Dionysis of Alexandria suggested that it wasn't written by the apostle John, but he still believed it was an inspired book.

What can be accepted as truth isn't different from what was taught to the early church in the apostolic tradition.
