Do you Recycle: Clothing and Chatchkies?
Actually what I am getting at, do you shop thrift stores consistently to find clothing? Not just because of deals but why not buy something already made? It is like the dog pound for stuff. Post your finds here!
I will have some purchases posted later. I went on a Salvation Army binge. But I lose buying clothing that I like but someone else no longer wanted. I donate perfectly good clothing I am tired of, doesn't fit me right, no longer current style, etc. I am reconsidering my never donate junk policy since I learned of a whole sewing subculture that takes seemingly ruined clothing and rehabs it.
But Salvation Army though I think is doing a disservice in some ways. It is too expensive for a lot of stuff. How is this helping:
1. Poor people who are shopping (I know the income helps poor people in other ways)
2. An idea of recycling belongings?
For example, I am going to California, and need some coats that I will rarely if ever use here in Florida. Salvation Army will probably end up with them, no matter where I get them. The prices for decent courts were $29-$40! At Salvation Army!! That is ridiculous. I bought some new stuff at Metrostyle on clearance for the same price or cheaper. People GAVE them this stuff. They shouldn't be greedy.Nochyu mokraya ptitsa nikogda ne letaet.

Okay bad washed out pictures as I am on the patio and using a webcam, but you will get the drift.
The sweater I am wearing is awesome. Note how the fringe is like cowl just going down one side. The cropped sleeves and vibrant blue/black check is very nice. Paid about $2.

Next up, orange cropped shorts. About the same price.

Lastly, is something that doesn't fit. But I don't despair, because I will use it in some way. About $4.

See all the great pockets? They are basically old denim cargo pants. So here are my ideas (from least daring to most daring).
1. Cut out all the pockets and attach them to something else, a vest, other jeans, even perhaps a unique organizer, it would make an interest travel organizer. I want it more though to lug around gadgets, so maybe a vest or other jeans. Easy.
2. Gusset the sides so that they fit.
3. Split them up the inseam, cut past the fly area, and then attach them nearly whole, like chaps to another pair of pants.
Numbers two and three are mutually exclusive. If I screw up one, I can't try the other. But if I screw up numbers two or three, I can always do number one.Nochyu mokraya ptitsa nikogda ne letaet.

I don't buy much in the way of clothing at thrift stores. However, I've gotten an extensive set of Revereware copper bottom cookware by gleaning the kitchen section over the years.
I've also bought pure wool blankets and quite a few pieces of good EAPG. (Early American Pressed Glass) Some of the EAPG I picked up was appraised at many times it's thrift store price.I have been honored as an Enemy of Nee™ and LAu Tzu hasn't!

I got a great hand-knitted throw for about $3, I could just leave it there, it was obviously someone's labour of love. I got this really cute box thing I have to photograph. It has some scratches, which makes it more endearing to me, and crayon marks on it. It was obviously used as a child's toy box, but Magic Eraser will take those crayon marks right off. I will use it as a drop box for light sweaters.
I also got some great books for 50 cents each.Nochyu mokraya ptitsa nikogda ne letaet.

We buy almost all of our clothes from thrift/consignment shops-that is, jeans and shirts. We rarely find dresses (for the Mrs.), and we don't buy stuff like jackets or suits or shoes from those places.

Re: Do you Recycle: Clothing and Chatchkies?
I don't shop at Thrift Stores too often, but I found one of my favorite shirts there. A red vintage Coca-Cola T.
...when I used to sew, I would usually go to Ross to find nice clothing that could be fixed...I'm not sure where all Ross is located tho.

Re: Do you Recycle: Clothing and Chatchkies?
I made one of my increasingly rare thrift store visits the other day and found some books I wanted and a couple of nice baking pans.
The only reason that I don't go more often is that I've hit the point that I have enough of darn near everything. Untill stuff breaks or wears out, there is no need to get more.I have been honored as an Enemy of Nee™ and LAu Tzu hasn't!
