Rude emails from tektonic site
Today whilst browsing conspiracy videos on UTube I came across some anti Jesus stuff which led me to this website named Tektonic. I read some, not much I admit of the stuff on this site. But it struck me as being as narrowminded as the anti Jesus stuff. on both sides there did not seem to be any objectivity whatsoever.
Firstly let me tell you that I am neither a christian or a follower of any religion. Neither do I deny that any religion or deity as followed by anybody is not true. I simply do not believe myself. I would never tell somebody that what they have faith in is not true purely because it does not coincide with what I believe. I do however have a brother who has been a christian for many years and who has taken his faith and worked for the church with children in poverty in several, what I would call rough parts of the world. It is from him and his friends that nearly all of my views of christians come from as they are the only ones that I ever encounter. The impression they leave me with is one of being intelligent and caring people who carry within them a faith that I cannot understand or emulate for anything in my own life. They do however, like the anti Jesus people have a lack of objectivity in my opinion. For none of them have ever said to me " Yes I do believe but my belief could be wrong or misplaced, even though I doubt it very much" Which to me sounds very fair and is the starting point for most of the things that I myself believe. However when I asked this Tektonic site for an opinion on this subject I recieved a rather rude and impolite email calling me amongst other things hopelessly ignorant and a narrowminded moron. At the bottom of the mail I was invited to post on this site where this chap and his friends would be waiting for me. I know from my brother and his friends that not all christians are this ill mannered. So I await the gentlemans reply

I'm sorry but I am new to this forum and do not understand the implications or meanings of this popcorn eating smiley. I would be most grateful if you could clarify it for me. thank you.

Re: Rude emails from tektonic site
Basically, it's an indication that the poster is interested in the development of a thread, but has nothing to add to it himself. Sometimes (perhaps mostly) it's used humourously, as with most smilies, but sometimes it's simply an honest comment of "I'm interested."

Re: Rude emails from tektonic site
Ah, my Screwball Award winner arrived! Let's have some fun with him.

OH REALLY?I would never tell somebody that what they have faith in is not true purely because it does not coincide with what I believe.

You said:
Say, Smokey -- if I and your brother are "narrowminded" then aren't you saying that our idea that we are right is NOT TRUE?I found on your site the same dogged narrowmindedness that my younger brother possesses.
Does our "narrowmindedness" "not coincide with" what you believe?
Duh ah....
This is why you won a Screwball Award! You can't see your own contradictions!
Say, Smokey....maybe that's because WE ARE RIGHT?none of them have the objectivity to simply say "Yes I do believe but I also must admit that my belief may be wrong".
How about 'stead of whining, you prove we're wrong with an argument?
Do YOU have the "objectivity" to admit you may be wrong in your belief that we are not right?
If so, welcome once again to the Land of Epistemic Train Wrecks!
Maybe because....YOU NEED TO PROVE WE'RE NOT ACTUALLY RIGHT FIRST?Yet regardless of their intelligence not one of them has the objectivity to admit that my point about being narrowminded is valid.
Have you heard? The truth is very narrow-minded!
Too bad -- we're not here to prop up your lagging self-esteem. If you want respect, try PROVING we're wrong, or at least offering a real argument to that effect -- using credible sources! It would be nice to hear just one say " Yes we could be wrong but we don't think so" But they never do.
And as Al Yankovic would say -- "Want a tissue for that?"As my brother Stephen would say "God bless you"

Due to rampant stupidity by Skeptics, and time issues, I'm only going to be on TWeb in my own (tektonics.org) section from now on. Deal with it.

Is there a problem with being 'narrow-minded'?
Not at all. There is much depth to be explored when narrowing one's scope of knowledge on one or two particular areas.
But you do believe in something, correct? You also have a solid foundation for these beliefs, otherwise you would not believe them, correct? Doesn't that make you as narrow-minded as you claim JP, etc are?Firstly let me tell you that I am neither a christian or a follower of any religion. Neither do I deny that any religion or deity as followed by anybody is not true. I simply do not believe myself. I would never tell somebody that what they have faith in is not true purely because it does not coincide with what I believe.
That's nice, but I don't see how this part is relevant.I do however have a brother who has been a christian for many years and who has taken his faith and worked for the church with children in poverty in several, what I would call rough parts of the world. It is from him and his friends that nearly all of my views of christians come from as they are the only ones that I ever encounter. The impression they leave me with is one of being intelligent and caring people who carry within them a faith that I cannot understand or emulate for anything in my own life.
I don't tell people that I'm a Hellsing fan. That doesn't mean that I'm not a Hellsing fan. Likewise, someone could be a fan of the Boston Bruins(:barf:), but not tell me. That doesn't mean that they aren't a Bruins fan. Just because they haven't said it to you personally means absolutely nothing. They do however, like the anti Jesus people have a lack of objectivity in my opinion. For none of them have ever said to me " Yes I do believe but my belief could be wrong or misplaced, even though I doubt it very much" Which to me sounds very fair and is the starting point for most of the things that I myself believe.

Welcome to Tweb. Sorry that you've got off on the wrong footing with... a few people. This is a mainly christian site, but if you stick around, they're not that bad (Well, most of them...). I'd even say I made some friends :P

"Years ago, I mean decades ago, I read a quote about politicians performing quid pro quo favors for campaign cash, and whether or not we could prove it. The guy who was quoted opined that it was difficult to determine. He noted that in many cases, the payoff might not take the form of votes on legislative action -- those might be detectable, and so are avoided -- but could take subtler forms, like the question that is never asked at a hearing.
The media's doing a terrific job of not asking questions it doesn't want to know the answer to. It doesn't ask these questions in bulk, and the great volume of questions it doesn't ask makes it cheap to not ask questions.
And it passes these savings on to you, the customer." Ace

Re: Rude emails from tektonic site
That's not what narrow minded means. Narrow minded means you're unwilling to consider the opposing evidence, an absurd charge to make, especially against someone who does exactly that for a living. This chap seems to think that because some of us are sure we're right, we must be narrow minded, when in reality certainty has nothing to do with it. He reminds me of Justin, minus the severe retardation.

Why? Would you tell someone to get out of a burning house? If you have any sort of morals you would because you don't want them to come to harm. Christians that speak out to atheism mostly do it because they don't want those around them to be eternally seperated from God. If you are offended, that's your problem. You don't have to agree with it, but its not like Christians are the Big Bad Wolf devouring nonbelievers. Instead of being offended, try to rebut their arguments.
I always find it funny that people will spout "TOLERANCE!" but don't practice it themselves.
No. Some things you believe so strongly, that there is no doubt in your mind. To say that you have doubt when you do not is dishonest. I'm not going to compromise my beliefs just to avoid stepping on your toes. Grow some thicker skin. They do however, like the anti Jesus people have a lack of objectivity in my opinion. For none of them have ever said to me " Yes I do believe but my belief could be wrong or misplaced, even though I doubt it very much"
Also, learn to use paragraphs. It makes your posts easier to read.

Then Morgoth turned upon Húrin, and he said: 'Fool, little among Men, and they are the least of all that speak! Have you seen the Valar, or measured the power of Manwë and Varda?
Do you know the reach of their thought? Or do you think, perhaps, that their thought is upon you, and that they may shield you from afar?'
'I know not,' said Húrin. 'Yet so it might be, if they willed. For the Elder King shall not be dethroned while Arda endures.'
