Re: Where are the demons today?
Great question. I hope the thread continues in this vein. I hope someone quotes the undeniable scriptures associated with this. Right now my wife is tugging at my ear for last minute Christmas shopping. The gifts we offer to adults relate to the Christ of Christmas. The younger guys/gals get clothes and stuff, with a reminder that it is Jesus' birthday.Returning to demons I would ask how they were confronted in Scripture by the disciples after Jesus had walked among them (following his ascension).

Well, I believe its in Acts where a man saw the disciples say a string of words at a demon (I don't believe the words themselves in that order it was used were inherently special, but if something isn't broke, don't fix it) and then commanded it to come out. The man wanted to make a name for himself and tried it himself, to which the demon replies "I know Jesus and I know Paul, but who are you?" and proceeded to tear him up before he escaped.Returning to demons I would ask how they were confronted in Scripture by the disciples after Jesus had walked among them (following his ascension).
Moral of the story: if you aren't acting for the glory of God, keep your mouth shut.

Then Morgoth turned upon Húrin, and he said: 'Fool, little among Men, and they are the least of all that speak! Have you seen the Valar, or measured the power of Manwë and Varda?
Do you know the reach of their thought? Or do you think, perhaps, that their thought is upon you, and that they may shield you from afar?'
'I know not,' said Húrin. 'Yet so it might be, if they willed. For the Elder King shall not be dethroned while Arda endures.'

Re: Where are the demons today?
T-Shirt Ninja,
You understood my post and what I speak is the Truth, not heresy. You are getting being saved, repentance and receiving the Holy Spirit mixed up. Being saved, repentance and receiving the Holy Spirit are all different events and all essential to your walk in Christ. Satan has deluded believers into believing they have received the infilling of the Holy Spirit when in actual fact all they have done is just repented to God. Satan speaks through false religion to fool you.
Study these scriptures below and you will see that they are different events. All the people in these scriptures were God fearing people, some of them had been baptized and believed in Jesus yet had not received the Holy Spirit. The receiving of the Holy Spirit was a separate event where it was usually received with other Spirit Filled Believers. The same is happening today to thousands throughout the world.
Acts 1 v 4And, being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard of me.
5For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence.
6When they therefore were come together, they asked of him, saying, Lord, wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel?
7And he said unto them, it is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power.
8But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.
Acts 2 v 1And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.
2And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.
3And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them.
4And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
36Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly, that God hath made the same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ.
37Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do?
38Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
39For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the LORD our God shall call.
Acts 8; Philip went to Samaria to preach Christ unto them. They took heed to what Philip spoke and the miracles he did casting out demons and healing the sick. They were baptised in the name of Jesus. Yet none had received the Holy Spirit. So Peter and John were sent and they lay their hands on them and they received the Holy Ghost.
Acts 10; Cornelius was a devout man that feared God withal his house, gave to the poor and prayed to God always. Yet Cornelius had not received the Holy Spirit until Peter spoke to him about how God had anointed Jesus with the Holy Spirit and power. Then the same Holy Spirit that fell on Jesus and the Hebrews fell on Cornelius and his household.
Acts 19; Paul met disciples at Ephesus which believed and had been baptised yet had not’t received the Holy Spirit. So Paul laid his hands upon them and they received the Holy Spirit.
When the Holy Spirit comes upon believers they not only “speak in tongues” but receive power to preach the Gospel, heal the sick and cast out demons. Acts 1v 8 & Mark 16v 16-20.
Being saved is something God will judge at the return of Christ and after the millennium. There will be Spirit filled, tongue speaking people who have lost their way and unrepentant who will not be saved at Christ return. And there will be non Christians saved according to their works after the millennium. So it is not up to me to make that judgment but only to minister the Word of God so all continue to grow in Christ so we are resurrected at Christ’s return.

Re: Where are the demons today?
Hi Binkster,
All I wanted to say is that Christians can have demons. I once believed that they could not by what I learnt at a Church for many years but now I know differently. Demons or Satan were never discussed because they believed in the fear factor yet the Bible talked a lot on this subject. As a result demon hid among the congregation and caused havoc at times. Now I call them what they are and they are exposed. There is no fear when you know the power of the Blood of Christ as demons will depart when cast out in Jesus name. Although demons can manifest like you see on Hollywood movies that is generally not the case. When you know that they are just spiritual bodies that just access your fleshly body and not your soul, the context of being possessed becomes clearer and not so complicated. When people are sick most religions will refer their people to Doctors and Psychologists when the answer lies within them, Christ and the Bible. Not to condemn any one who seek the help of D and P but there is a better way through Christ.
The Book of Job helps put a clearer view on the subject. Job knew what depression was and its roots came from Satan.

Re: Where are the demons today?
Fred,
I've asked you to take this debate concerning receiving and the infilling of the Holy Spirit to a new thread.
To close this aspect of the topic (for this thread) I consider that it is you who are getting the matters mixed up - but we can discuss that in detail in the other thread.
Several posters have spoken about receiving the Holy Spirit - which all believers receive when they are born again (by which I encompass the events of repentance, regeneration, justification, adoption, etc.). Every time someone mentions this receiving the Holy Spirit event you go on to speak about the latter event of infilling with the Holy Spirit, which I believe to be subsequent to being born again but, as I say - that discussion is not for this particular thread.
Thank you,
:johnny:

Re: Where are the demons today?
All the above just repeats what I opposed. I understand people think this way, and as I already stated, there is a difference between people allowing satan to cause them depression, and a chemical imbalance in the brain (chemical depression) Not all depression is from Satan.
Define "having demons"

Fred ...... any scripture can be quoted out of context. Out of context it is misinterpreted and misapplied. End of story.

Re: Where are the demons today?
Binkster,
We are been made to believe that Demons only behave and manifest like we see on Hollywood movies. This only happens on few occasions. In African and Asian countries they will behave differently again. In different types of divination they will manifest differently. In different types of false religion they will behave differently. They can manifest or hide in anyway they can to deceive people coming to and knowing the true God. Physical and mental sickness is another manifestation to derail believers.
In all of the above they can be cast out by the blood of Jesus.
Casting demons out of non believers is a waste of time as the demons will always come back as God has given them legal access to do so.
God has also given the demons legal access to Christians if they do not follow His Word even if it is through ignorance. For example a Christian can still hold on to demons if they have a seed of bitterness to ward some one even if the event was before they became Christian. Cancers can be passed down from generation to generation because ancestors may have been involved in divination and these spirit need to be cast out and soul ties broken. Your father may be involved in masonry and this will attract demonic spirits to the family and again soul ties need to be broken. Addictions such as alcohol and drugs are evidence of demonic activity.
I have seen Spirit filled Christian believers with all of the above and the church send them off to doctors and psychologists or even expelled from the congregation. These are all evidence of demons and should be treated as such. And yes with the Hollywood manifestations as well.
We need to go back to the source of entry with the victim, close up the holes and cast the demons out. We can all be effected by demons and I say again it does not mean we are not saved but we have a work to do to overcome the enemy.

Re: Where are the demons today?
I have never been made to believe that demons manifest as seen in Hollywood.
You still didn't answer my question.
Define "having demons." unless all of that was your definition...
I understand all of the above, although I do somewhat disagree with the demon/illness area. Not all sickness is from demons, and although a parents life (involvement with sin) may affect their children's lives, I do not think that because a parent, or grandparent, or great-grand parent, had cancer, that it was passed down through demons......and all family will have cancer until the demon is cast out!!!
It sounds to me like you are leaving out the middle part, and this is your train of thought, demons and/or satan tempts people> people fall into temptation> people sin> people's sin (drug addiction) causes people to get ill.....so take the first thing, demons/satan, and the last thing, illness, and put them together, and you have demons cause people to get ill.
If I go running, fall, and break my leg, is that because a demon tripped me? Or is that because my parents sinned-everyone sins, Im not going to be punished or held accountable for what my parents did, or for what demons attacked them. God is just.
And, really, I am still not sure what you mean by "having demons."
Do you mean demons are attacking people?
Or demons are possessing people?
