I think humanevitae should get a screwball for his persistent and stubborn argument that Protestants have no authority since there are so many Protestant denominations and his arrogance that Catholics have the only authority: http://www.theologyweb.com/campus/sh...2&postcount=83

He's also said some other screwie things, like how abortion came after the Reformation...so what's his point?

      Re: January 2009 Screwballs

Stevie Weevie Carr sinks deeper on Dumplin' Dumbass' board:

Paul never produces one single bit of eyewitness testimony as to what a resurrected body was like, although he was clearly trying to explain what a resurrected body was like.
Duh, Stevie? Why do you think Paul used the creed? It contained a list of people who had seen a resurrected body -- that of Jesus!

And why doesn’t Paul denounce these people as false Christians?
That Paul addressed them was denunciation enough, Stevie. Besides, not thinking YOU will be resurrected is a mistake, but it isn't heresy.

Paul knew that these people were scoffing at the idea of their god choosing to raise corpses ,although he takes for granted that they accepted that their god created Adam from dead matter.
Well, Stevie, that would be just another inconsistency by the Greeks then, eh? They believed Prometheus made man out of mud, so apparently they didn't see a problem either. Or maybe it is you that is stupid, eh?

Stevie then pomps for the "spiritual rez" idea, then Dumplin' chimes in with his usual cockeyed exegesis, including the spiritual rez again, and this:

According to Matthew, people around Palestine were saying that the disciples had the bones, so they weren’t really missing as far as most people were concerned. Whether they were or not, though, Paul’s argument in 1 Cor 15 is conspicuously lacking in precisely that sort of “where are the bones” argument.
Duh, Dumplin'? Paul isn't addressing people who said the body was stolen, you moron.

Stevie then offers this asinine text missing the same point as before:

Paul never claims the others believed in corpses rising from graves, or that Jesus had said ‘I am the Resurrection’, or had ever proved the resurrection as it is alleged Jesus did in Matthew’s Gospel.

I wonder why the words of Jesus were so irrelevant to the lives and disputes of early Christians.
Poor Stevie. Laughed off of TWeb, he's reduced to slumming at pissant blogs like Dumplin's. Does he even have a job or is he on the permanent dole over in the UK?

      http://www.tektoonics.com

Due to rampant stupidity by Skeptics, and time issues, I'm only going to be on TWeb in my own (tektonics.org) section from now on. Deal with it.

      Yes.
"Years ago, I mean decades ago, I read a quote about politicians performing quid pro quo favors for campaign cash, and whether or not we could prove it. The guy who was quoted opined that it was difficult to determine. He noted that in many cases, the payoff might not take the form of votes on legislative action -- those might be detectable, and so are avoided -- but could take subtler forms, like the question that is never asked at a hearing.

The media's doing a terrific job of not asking questions it doesn't want to know the answer to. It doesn't ask these questions in bulk, and the great volume of questions it doesn't ask makes it cheap to not ask questions.

And it passes these savings on to you, the customer." Ace

Furay dismisses non-Catholic scholarship with a handwave:

There are footnotes on every page of the book, but every single statement doesn't come with a citation. Personally I don't consider NT Wright or James D. G. Dunn to be authorities in anything having to do with Christ. Being as how they are protestant heretics I take their work with a grain of salt, perhaps you might feel the same way towards Fr. Meagher. So be it.

Wheeee! New fun from Vox's comment boards.

Theist:.whereas claims of past resurection some 2000 years ago halfway around the world cannot be confirmed by anyone anywhere ever.

Spacebunny: Well then, let's just throw out all of history - it never happened. Better get rid of the pesky evolution thing too.

CunningDove:No, not all of history, just the texts that lack verifiable, experimental proof. Ya know like the proof we have that the versions of Iliad and Odyssey are indeed the versions written by the blind poet Homer.

Or that the subject from the first Voxiversity was a true and faithful version of The History of the Peloponnesian War by Thucydides.

"Throughout history, poverty is the normal condition of man. Advances which permit this norm to be exceeded- here and there, now and then- are the work of an extremely small minority, frequently despised, often condemned, and almost always opposed by all right-thinking people. Whenever this tiny minority is kept from creating, or (as sometimes happens) is driven out of a society, the people then slip back into abject poverty. This is known as “bad luck.”"
