Re: January 2009 Screwballs
Hopefully this hasn't been posted before -- John Powell says ancient people were not intelligent enough to grasp the concept of "integral days":
POWELL:Mountain Man:
If a news report says, "Rescuers found the survivors after a three-day search," it is commonly understood that the survivors were found sometime on the third day after the search had started. This is apparently obvious to everybody but you.
Those days are referring to 24 hour days without regard to daylight or whatever. To use 24 hours to refer to days helps to avoid confusion when their readers don't know how to count integral days. The ancients weren't smart enough yet to do that. We learned from their challenges.

Email:
I invited him here.Greetings,
Hello Robert Turkle. I see your ministry is still up and running. Excellent work. Your site has become more populous, less scholarly, over the last decade. You have a talent for rhetoric and an ability to effectively persuade a certain subset of the population. I think you could argue a secular perspective just as well, or nearly as well, as a Christian perspective. Do you? As long as you argue better than your opponent, it doesn't who is correct. We could do an exercize where I argue Christianity and you argue atheism. Is that something you're interested in doing?
Much of your content --your life's work?-- has become slightly antiquated, but you gotta go where the money is, and most people who proselytize really aren't able to grasp the subtleties of Raymond Brown or John Crossan. When you talk to people outside of your religious circle and tell them your vocation is Apologist, do you feel a slight tinge of ignominy? You have a masters in library science, right? You used to work in a prison, so you have some verifiable work experience. Unless you messed that up, somehow? That could explain why you aren't being a librarian anymore? Get a job. Have you seen this video:

Due to rampant stupidity by Skeptics, and time issues, I'm only going to be on TWeb in my own (tektonics.org) section from now on. Deal with it.

Re: January 2009 Screwballs
I looked at link you put in the comments.
So, a couple of Christian nuts out of literally millions of harmless Christians in those countries spoils the entire picture?
Where you ultimately fail is to show that this is the normal pattern for Christianity. Wherever just about any religion or ideological system grows (including atheism), it's not surprising to have a few nutcases go off and kill people in areas where they can get away with it.

***Rest in peace, Curtmudgeon!***
"I hate Manwe's posts because I hate babies and America." --Augustine2004, August 6, 2011
Then Morgoth turned upon Húrin, and he said: 'Fool, little among Men, and they are the least of all that speak! Have you seen the Valar, or measured the power of Manwë and Varda?
Do you know the reach of their thought? Or do you think, perhaps, that their thought is upon you, and that they may shield you from afar?'
'I know not,' said Húrin. 'Yet so it might be, if they willed. For the Elder King shall not be dethroned while Arda endures.'
The Words of Húrin and Morgoth, "The Children of Húrin" by J.R.R. Tolkien

What's even funnier is that I know from "those" days how hard that guy probably laughed at himself while writing that, and how long it probably took him to send it.
I haven't really changed that much since I was an atheist. I just believe in one more god than you now.

Why are "sceptics" so obsessed with JP's name formerly being Bob Turkel? You'd think they've uncovered some kind of government conspiracy plot the way they keep harping on about it.
Actually, its more like: -

This is suprisingly similar to what one Atheist said to me once. One guy who reckoned he had an MA in Philosophy and had "spent 10 years studying Jewish culture and history" yet still believed Judaism and Christianity were rip offs of Zoroastrianism and Mithraism.Crab Battle
noun
Words uttered to incite an all in brawl. Whoever says the words 'Crab Battle' will usually be spear tackled to the ground by anyone else present, and all parties will then engage in a fight to the death.
Reality untouchable, transparent, invisible to our fixed, restricted fields of vision. Existence taken for granted, absolute. Possessed, owned, controlled by the common sense-infected rational gaze, onward forever we walk among the ignorant. Never stray from the common lines.
