Then Morgoth turned upon Húrin, and he said: 'Fool, little among Men, and they are the least of all that speak! Have you seen the Valar, or measured the power of Manwë and Varda?
Do you know the reach of their thought? Or do you think, perhaps, that their thought is upon you, and that they may shield you from afar?'
'I know not,' said Húrin. 'Yet so it might be, if they willed. For the Elder King shall not be dethroned while Arda endures.'

Re: The Hobbit Movie Thread
Is this thing still alive? This movie is starting to remind me of the old "I'm getting better, I think I'll go for a walk" guy in Monty Python and the Holy Grail. I half expect it to be stone-dead before long.
Okay, I finally have a blog.

It's being made. Elijah Wood, Cate Blanchett, and others have agreed to come back. Unfortunately, Peter Jackson had to undergo surgery for a perforated ulcer (whatever that means) and it's delayed yet again, but it's not in Legal Limbo anymore.

Can't wait to see it. I'm a little put off by the idea that they are going to add a bunch of stuff so they can make it two movies, though

I wouldn't be so hasty as that. Plenty of stuff was going on behind the scenes. While Bilbo was taking his stroll, Sauron became active for the first time in centuries (or millenia, I don't have timelines memorized), and Gandalf went all Mission: Impossible and infiltrated into his impregnable stronghold and all sorts of crazy stuff happened. There's canon enough for two films.

Does Tolkien ever describe what happened? I know there was a "necromancer" that Gandalf discovered was actually Sauron, but he didn't give details about the whole thing, did he?

Not in the level of the main story of "The Hobbit" or "Lord of the Rings", but it's described, yes.

Peter Jackson has released his first production video for the hobbit. It's a meaty 10 minutes.

It hardly seems real that we'll get to see Middle-earth again. Seeing the rebuilt sets of Hobbiton and Rivendell is surreal.

Re: The Hobbit Movie Thread
I must see about doing the Hobbiton tour at Matamata soon .... it's a bit pricey though (and I have to go to Australia next month which I need to buy a suit for). Hopefully I can get to it before they start filming. If so I will definitely post pics. (they're not filming there at the moment)

I never thought the project would even get off the ground. I was quite pleased to see the video clip they put out.
Okay, I finally have a blog.
