But what can cold reason do in this matter? It may present us with fair ideas; it can draw a fine picture of love: But this is only a painted fire. And farther than this reason cannot go. I made the trial for many years. I collected the finest hymns, prayers, and meditations which I could find in any language; and I said, sung, or read them over and over, with all possible seriousness and attention. But still I was like the bones in Ezekiel's vision: "The skin covered them above; but there was no breath in them." - John Wesley

Re: Christian Music? Why does it suck?
A good bit oftThe Christian Music industry is about entrepreneurship rather than art or ministry as far as I can see and perhaps that's why it misses the mark.

My most recent faith struggle is not one of intellect. I don't really do that anymore. Sooner or later you just figure out there are some guys who don't believe in God and they can prove He doesn't exist, and some other guys who can prove He does exist, and the argument stopped being about God a long time ago and now it's about who is smarter, and honestly, I don't care. ~ Don Miller Blue Like Jazz

Re: Christian Music? Why does it suck?
I think the "industry" is about the "industry". It is full of good folks who have great intentions, just like many other "industries." But I think we confuse the notion of Christian "artists'' with Christian "music". There are a good number of Christians out there making music who are not making "Christian" music, per se. Likewise, there are probably folks in the CCM industry who are in it for the benjamins. Hey, if you can sell tons of records singing about Jesus, there are going to be people interested in selling tons of records singing about Jesus!
That sounds "cynical". Why am I using so many "quotation" marks? My "index" and "bird" digits are "hurting". I will "stop" now.But what can cold reason do in this matter? Re: Christian Music? Why does it suck?
Well someone already suggested one artist Todd Agnew a group I like if you want good messages and song quality is Selah they do a lot of covers of hymns that are awesome and some of their own stuff. another artist I enjoy is Fernando Oretega. Selah and Fernando Oretega would probably be listed as easy listening. Also if you want good melodic and biblically sound try almost anythign from Michael Card.

Re: Christian Music? Why does it suck?
Lately I've been listening to All Star United. Good mature christian pop/rock group, very clever and catchy songs. I had their CDs sitting around for a while in storage until I began to really appreciate them a few days ago.

Re: Christian Music? Why does it suck?
Darth Ovious, as much as I love Biffy Clyro (look at my "political preferences for example) I'm pretty sure they're NOT a Christian band.
They are one of the best bands out there though.

Re: Christian Music? Why does it suck?
The last "Christian" band I liked was Creed. But I"m guessing mainstream Christianity didn't consider them Christian.

My brother's into Anberlin.
And personally, I quite like Plumb, a couple of whose angstier songs have showed up on my Pandora station due to similarities with Evanescence."See what Calvin Klein has to say about briefs and then tell me they can't be sexy."--Vigilante, Tweb underwear expert
And do not wonder that a man may become an imitator of God. He can, if he is willing. For it is not by ruling over his neighbours, or by seeking to hold the supremacy over those that are weaker, or by being rich, and showing violence towards those that are inferior, that happiness is found; nor can any one by these things become an imitator of God. But these things do not at all constitute His majesty. On the contrary he who takes upon himself the burden of his neighbour; he who, in whatsoever respect he may be superior, is ready to benefit another who is deficient; he who, whatsoever things he has received from God, by distributing these to the needy, becomes a god to those who receive [his benefits]: he is an imitator of God.

Those who are big on the "mystery" (especially from an Eastern Orth perspective) who also like darker-themed 80's Cure-ish synthpop will absolutely love "Dreamcypher," by the Cruxshadows. One of my personal favorites!
I haven't really changed that much since I was an atheist. I just believe in one more god than you now.
