What do you not understand? The point is simply this: you reap what you sow. Those people in the Old Testament who continually sinned would reap the inevitable consequences of their actions: total devastation. That is, they would self destruct, to such an extreme that they'd be forced to resort to cannibalism to survive. Simply put: when God says "I will make them eat the flesh of their children", it simply means that because those people continue to sin, he will give them over to their own destruction. It's not the case that God acts like a cruel dictator and actually forces innocent bystanders to eat their innocent children.

Dude...those nations which God ordered judgment upon (or genocide, as you call it) practiced things like homosexuality, bestiality, child sacrifice, incest, etc, and continued to do so after years and years of warnings. They were a major threat to Israel, the people through which the savior of humanity would come. God HAD to eliminate those threats, because otherwise, there'd be no hope of salvation. And because they were so evil, the conquests were the best way to both punish and eliminate those nations.

Also, here's the kicker...the plan was NOT to massacre those people. Instead, it was simply to DRIVE THEM OUT. The nations were to be destroyed, but the people spared. The people who stayed behind, trying to fight the Israelite army, would be destroyed, but such people would probably be the ones who were the most evil, because those who loved the culture enough to protect it to the end would probably be the ones most infected by it. The others, who probably weren't as evil, would have escaped and migrated elsewhere.

So, contra your opinion that the situation involved a deity unjustly ordering the mass murders of every single living thing in those innocent nations, the actual situation involves a deity justly and mercifully ordering the removal of criminals from those nations, so that the people through which the Hope of mankind would come could come. The only people who were actually killed were the ones who ignored the years of warnings, and resolved to the end to continue in their evil ways, thus demonstrating that they were a deadly cancer that the Physician could treat in no other way than to order chemotherapy through war.

Firstly, wether you are awares of it or not, killing the kids out there was in truth, a mercifull act, since virtually all the Amelakite men were killed in the war, aka, the the entire constituency of the warrior class of Amelek, and effectively, the source of substance (Amelakites were a wandering raiding societies, forcefully subsisting at the expense of other peoples). If those babies were not put to death quickly, they would be condemned to a horrible and agonizing death (A quick death was prefferred over an long and tortous one).
