If you converted to Eastern Orthodoxy, why did you convert to that and not to Catholicism?

The Pope.
* I apologize for any scandal I cause to those who doing a forum search read my old posts written before and during my journey to the Catholic Faith. If you read anything heretical, impious, or just plain wrong, please forgive my ignorance. I submit everything to the Magisterium of the Holy Catholic Church. Praised be Jesus Christ forever and ever! Amen. Also, sorry for the times I was a jerk. Lot's of those!

Re: To EO converts
The filioque was the first distinguishing feature (along with the pope) that I became aware of between the two groups, and after studying the issue I came to agree with the Orthodox position. This was well before I had any intentions of converting. The manner of promulgating the filioque, clerical celibacy, the need for Reformation, and the demonstrated lack of church discipline the recent child abuse scandals all contributed to pushing me away from Roman Catholicism.

Re: To EO converts
I had no background in either and was quite open to converting to either. It was a very hard decision for me that I felt like I was making without enough solid facts. Intuitively the Orthodox approach to spirituality and theology makes sense to me when I read Orthodox writers. From a historical point of view I tend to find the Orthodox arguments against a universal papacy and the east west split to be slightly stronger. And theologically I disagree with the filoque in the sense it was used when added to the creed.
I do think there are some quite strong arguments for the RCC position which is why it was very hard for me.
Blessings"Thou hast learnt the way, how in the judgment thou mayest be found among those on the right hand; guard that which is committed to thee concerning Christ, and be conspicuous in good works, that thou mayest stand with a good confidence before the Judge, and inherit the kingdom of heaven:—Through whom, and with whom, be glory to God with the Holy Ghost, for ever and ever. Amen" -St Cyril of Jerusalem, Catechetical Lecture XV
"All those who find rest within the material world and are not troubled about the salvation of their soul resemble the foolish young birds that don't make commotion inside their egg, so as to break the shell and come out to enjoy the sun (to soar inot the Heavens of the paradisiacal life). Rather, they remain motionless and die within their eggshell." -Elder Paisos

Re: To EO converts
For me, the issue centered on the historical presence of a belief. The Eastern Orthodox and Oriental Orthodox today, even though they have been in schism for ~1500 years, still maintain almost the same beliefs, especially on the issues where the Eastern Orthodox disagree with the Catholics. The fact that two communions historically hostile to each other end up agreeing today gives a lot of weight to the idea that Orthodox theology is simply not an innovation. On the other hand, the same cannot be said for Catholic beliefs based on the same standard.
O noble Virgin, truly you are greater than any other greatness. For who is your equal in greatness, O dwelling place of God the Word? To whom among all creatures shall I compare you, O Virgin? You are greater than them all O Covenant, clothed with purity instead of gold! You are the Ark in which is found the golden vessel containing the true manna, that is, the flesh in which divinity resides. - St Athanasius of Alexandria
