Carpentry
I've got a friend who's wanting to learn about carpentry. Anyone know a good book that could help him out?

Lowes and Home Depot both have a book section near the service centers... he can browse the books to see what suits his level of understanding / experience / comfort.
Does he want to be a framer (house builder) or cabinetry guy, or remoder... do you know what his goal is? carpentry is a big open field in which i have dabbled extensively.
That is NOT why i only have 7 fingers, by the way.

well, the Lowes / Home Depot idea is great then.. he can thumb through all the books and see what appeals to him.. and they have "project books", too.
Better than buying a book on general carpentry that might only have a small section that applies to what he wants.

This is pretty interesting. I have a sabbatical coming up and my wife suggested a practical approach: "Jesus was a carpenter. Why don't you apprentice yourself to a wood wright and get your hands dirty the way he did." I'm intrigued by the possibility.
"Yes, I'm quite concerned about health care issues surrounding leaked radiation from Japan. Now, please pass me my super sized, bacon double cheeseburger, combo meal..."

My most recent faith struggle is not one of intellect. I don't really do that anymore. Sooner or later you just figure out there are some guys who don't believe in God and they can prove He doesn't exist, and some other guys who can prove He does exist, and the argument stopped being about God a long time ago and now it's about who is smarter, and honestly, I don't care. ~ Don Miller Blue Like Jazz

I find it quite relaxing, actually. Many times, in Ministry, you feel like you've taken one step forward and two steps back. (Our REAL reward is not in this life, so it only SEEMS that way)
But to build a picnic table, or a privacy fence, or a spare room or a work shed or work bench... something PHYSICAL you can look at from time to time and have a sense of "accomplishment"... "I built that!" Maybe it's a guy thing.
But, yes, I've thought of it the same way ... it was good enough for Jesus!

And there's nothing like work and sweat to get the thought process going!
