Ecclesiology 201 Guidelines

Discussion on matters of general mainstream Christian churches. What are the differences between Catholics and protestants? How has the charismatic movement affected the church? Are Southern baptists different from fundamentalist baptists? It is also for discussions about the nature of the church.

This forum is primarily for Christians to discuss matters of Christian doctrine, and is not the area for debate between atheists (or those opposing orthodox Christianity) and theists. Inquiring atheists (or sincere seekers/doubters/unorthodox) seeking only Christian participation and having demonstrated a manner that does not seek to undermine the orthodox Christian faith of others are also welcome, but must seek Moderator permission first. When defining “Christian” for purposes of this section, we mean persons holding to the core essentials of the historic Christian faith such as the Trinity, the Creatorship of God, the virgin birth, the bodily resurrection of Christ, the atonement, the future bodily return of Christ, the future bodily resurrection of the just and the unjust, and the final judgment. Persons not holding to these core doctrines are welcome to participate in the Comparative Religions section without restriction, in Theology 201 as regards to the nature of God and salvation with limited restrictions, and in Christology for issues surrounding the person of Christ and the Trinity. Atheists are welcome to discuss and debate these issues in the Apologetics 301 forum without such restrictions. Additionally, there may be some topics that within the Moderator's discretion fall so outside the bounds of mainstream orthodox doctrine that may be more appropriately placed within Comparative Religions 101.

I also agree with you wholeheartedly about small groups (and I am kind of proud to say that my church has fairly recently opened up its doors to the Depression Connection group, which looks to me like a step in the right direction for many like myself).
"Depression" is probably the area I understand the LEAST, and where I am the weakest. Fortunately, I have some good people in my Church who have been through depression, or are battling it, and they are very interested in helping others. They have an appreciation for this problem that I may never have.

I think that's part of the key -- not all of us can effectively minster to all of the rest of us. God often uses us because of our unique situations, struggles, victories, or challenges.

      Teamwork?
Yeah, the video just is about teamwork in general, but still...

GOTTA share this story again, cause I was just thinking about it this morning.

I was teaching a Youth Conference many years ago, and my assigned topic was "confession".

After introducing myself to the crowd of teens, and introducing my topic, I asked what I thought was going to be a rhetorical question... "Can somebody give me a good definition of 'confession'"?

A young lady - probably 13 or 14 years old - raised her hand, and I thought I'd go ahead and give her a shot at it, then I could gently steer her in the right direction.

She answered, "confession is agreeing with God what He already knows".

        Wow

I got out my pen and wrote that down in my notes. (And, yeah, I actually said out loud, "wow -- that's good! Lemme write that down")

But, yeah, OBP, I do get what YOU were saying!

My hope on a thread like this is someone would pass by and learn something.

Hi Cow Poke, I've been thinking about this. I've certainly been in small groups that were formed with a lot of hope and not much else. How would you train up a small group? Any specific material (in addition to the Bible) you would use?

              Thanks for any insight.
