When conversion to Christianity has lessened the punishment of an ex-Communist.
I have told many instances of torture to Christian people in Indian provinces other than our West Bengal. But here majority people respect Christians due to long helpful missionary activities here.
But now 30 year old ruling Communist party has lost confidence of people and lost in the last vote in west bengal province. The ascending Trinamul party is hounding out Communist party workers and punishing them, often leading to death and permanent injury. Communists also had done the same to opposition when they captured the power 30 years ago.
Farmer Chintamani Midya and his brother were Communist workers. He had heard gospel and read tracts, but did not believe. Latter he heard that a Christian miracle worker is healing people. He went there to prove that it was a fraud. But after observing three days he could not. Latter the Christian called him and convinced him that even he could heal people he had faith in Christ.
So he went back to his place and read the Christian given bible. He believed and began to pray for healing. Many people were healed in that remote and poverty stricken place. Among them some believed and created a community of believers. But no Christian organization wanted to go to that poor inaccessible place to baptize them. After a few years effort Nazarene church of a nearby town baptized them and helped building a church. But they avoided that poor and problematic place after that.
Then Chintamani left politics and worked for Christ on his own without any outside support for the last 6 years. Only I supported the church a little. But God helped him in farming and fish culture.
Now comes the anticommunist revolution here. So they raided his joint family house on 24 June 2009. Without getting his communist brother and son they vented their anger on him, looting properties, breaking roofing tiles and burning what they could not take. But they spared food grains, bible and Christian pictures. Then they dragged Chintamni in front of the church and beat him severely there. There were both Christian sympathizers and antichristians in the gang. Former tried to save him and stopped the gangís entrance in the church to search for suspected weapons.
But miraculously Chintamani was not seriously injured. But the most serious thing was that the new rulers had decreed that Communists canít cultivate their lands until order from top. They did not lodge complaint to the ineffective police or anywhere and forgave them from heart. But they informed the Nazarene church and me. Nazarene made no response.
I went there with a small help and fasted Ėprayed together with them for two days. Then ban on farming, their sole livelihood, was lifted. But their fishery tanks in government land are confiscated. It will seriously hamper their income and Christian charity works.
Please pray for them and other Christians in this anticommunist revolution.
