Your preferred translation?

Oh, I forgot to add that it's usually not too difficult to find either the New English Bible (NEB) or the Revised English Bible (REB) in used bookstores. I have both of those in my collection, both with Apocrypha/Deuterocanon. They're a little harder to find, but I have often seen them in various used bookstores.

Save that charge for translations that deserve it, such as the Jehovah's Witnesses' New World Translation.

And even the New World Translation is adequate to demonstrate the error of JW teachings.

Something many Christians don't realize is the KJV adds words that are not in the original text. its understandable in the translation some added words are necessary. but I know adding the word "MEN" to this passage was not.

The italics words in the KJV are added.

Luk 17:34 I tell you, in that night there shall be two MEN in one bed; the one shall be taken, and the other shall be left.
Luk 17:35 Two WOMEN shall be grinding together; the one shall be taken, and the other left.
Luk 17:36 Two MEN shall be in the field; the one shall be taken, and the other left.

There are no reasons to be adding words in these instances. the"TWO" being referred to is not meant to convey a gender but to make it known one of the two humans will be taken and one left.

Two men being in one bed gives implications of homosexuality. this is the main problem I have with the KJV

Today, in American/modern Western culture, it may give that implication. Back then (and elsewhere even now), not so much. Sharing a bed does not necessarily equate to sexual activity, especially if there are more bodies than beds available. Most cultures don't share our concept of personal space. In the last two verses, the addition is most certainly accurate; women were the ones who did the grinding, and men were the ones working in the fields.

I have a bunch of different translations but I pretty much stick with the NASB since most of my congregation use it...Just makes things a lot easier :)

I use a KJV (rarely), an ESV (Frequently) and an NIV (Most of the time). I'm actually thinking of getting my hands on an Amplified one of these days...

I don't know if it's been pointed out (haven't read the thread) but "Orthodox" and NKJV are the same thing for New Testament anyway...we use an Orthodox translation for the Septuagint OT. So, um, both?

KJV (the one I used the most/learned memory verses)
ESV (the one used at church)
NASB (the original one)
Sometimes the Amplified or the NLT for a change of pace.
