"Cellulite, hawt or nawt" - Discuss! (split from "Man at God's Right Hand.)
Ty, in the last episode, Andre Ashby talked about a time when God supernaturally reduced the weight of certain women followers of his -- after the men "repented" of their "false expectations of beauty." Of course, I think the idea that men should tolerate fat women is pretty stupid anyway. And if their expections were "false," why would God miraculously satisfy those expectations?
I also thought Andre's supernatural music skills were rather unimpressive. His piano playing was incredibly bland and simplistic. Of course, I wasn't entirely clear about the extent of his supernatural abilities. It might just be that only his lyrics were supernatural.Last edited by Johnny MacManky; August 12th 2009 at 07:10 AM.

Obsidian, I watched this episode, too.
I thought the miracle of weight loss was kind of strange, although I wish I could have it. Eating right and exercising is so....so....disciplined and all. How much better for my character if God would just make me skinny no matter what I do.
however...
Um...what are you suggesting?Of course, I think the idea that men should tolerate fat women is pretty stupid anyway.
I dunno, I thought the lyrics were kind of simplistic, too, but maybe they spoke to someone else very powerfully. I like his voice.I also thought Andre's supernatural music skills were rather unimpressive. His piano playing was incredibly bland and simplistic. I was suggesting that we should expect women to take steps to promote their physical beauty, just like we should expect men to take steps to promote their moral and physical strength. If you saw a man and thought that he was acting like a wuss, would you instantly find fault with yourself and say, "Oh Michelle, now you're getting into your head those false expectations of masculinity again"?

Beauty isn't everything, of course, but it is something. And that false prophet Andre was promoting an overly tolerant, politically correct view of weight control. He himself implicitly admitted my point -- by claiming that the will of God was for the women to be zapped into thin-ness.

As long as you weren't suggesting they be taken out and shot or something like that.

The bible says beauty if passing (Proverbs 31:30), and it is.
Peter suggested that instead of focusing on the outside, it's what is inside that counts. (1 Peter 3:3-4) "Do not let your adornment be merely outward--arranging the hair, wearing gold, or putting on fine apparel-- rather let it be the hidden person of the heart, with the incorruptible beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is very precious in the sight of God."
Paul, when he was giving guidelines for which widows should be taken in by the church (1 Timothy 5:10), mentioned these attributes: "...well reported for good works: if she has brought up children, if she has lodged strangers, if she has washed the saints' feet, if she has relieved the afflicted, if she has diligently followed every good work."
Hmm...beauty fades (woohoo, boy, let me tell you!) but precious in the sight of God is a gentle and quiet spirit, and admirable before the church is a woman who does good works, is kind and generous, and who can relate well with her family. Not a mention about keeping herself physically pleasing to the men of the congregation.
I wasn't kidding when I said it takes discipline to stay in shape at my age (well into middle-age, not yet decrepit. And in case you think I'm Rhoda Rotund whining about how unfair it is that I'm judged for my weight, I'm not. I wear a single digit sized clothing. I DO weigh more than I did when I was in college by about 20 pounds, although college was two children and 30 years ago. ) Discipline is good for your character, so I'm not complaining about that. It's just that even though you added that disclaimer onto the end of your post about beauty not being everything, the flavor of your whole point seems to be that you think it is very, very important. And so did that Andre guy.

I'm wondering who wouldn't agree? Beauty is very, very important. Why shouldn't it be? If I date a girl, I must find her attractive to the eye.

amen michelle. When I was a young man, I tended to only notice the outward appearance of women, but as I got older, I have learned that the inside is what counts. A "plain" woman with a heart of gold is more beautiful than the most gorgeous woman with a shallow or selfish heart.

I love ya, AP, but i'm with Sparko on this one...
as we grow older, and eyes dim, and interests change... that inward beauty can be there long after external beauty has faded...
hey...
I hear a SONG starting... Randy Travis .. "I'm gonna love you forever, forever and ever amen"...

Re: Man at God's Right Hand (split from Miracles Administered)
We've discussed this before, and I realize that when you say "beauty" and I get offended, it's because when I hear "beauty" I hear something different.
I'm just fed up (and today it's particularly troublesome) of being compared to enhanced photos of women my age who have sat through an hour of hair and make-up and being told, "see how young you can look at 50?" I don't look young, I look like me.
I was at the pool this afternoon (after weighing the merits of a bit of a tan vs. wrinkles) and thinking about my puchy stomach. Every middle aged mother has a puchy stomach. C'mon, we had BABIES in there. But, ya know, there's one rule for a flat stomach. Or you can join a gym for $$$ per month.
Heaven help us if we offend men with our less than perfect bodies!
