"The Essene Gospels of Peace"
http://www.thenazareneway.com/index_...s_of_peace.htm
Claimed to have been translated by Edmond Bordeaux Szekely in 1928 using manuscripts found in the (cue X-Files theme) Secret Archives of the Vatican.
Is there any provenance or evidence that there might be anything ancient to these books?...the compass of existence held more than my text-books had revealed, more than I had ever dreamed of. In short I lost my superiority, and this, though I was not then aware of it, is the first step towards finding God.-A.J. Cronin

Re: "The Essene Gospels of Peace"
Thank you Kelp. I am always open to reading and weighing texts which purport to be about or relate to the life, teachings and insights of Jesus. I thought that in addition to the link you posted it might be worthwhile to also look at the writings of an Irish priest, one Rev. Gideon Jasper Richard Ouseley. He purports to have traveled to Tibet and translated the Gospel of the Holy Twelve. Here is a link to that document as well as some things about the good Reverend.

Re: "The Essene Gospels of Peace"
If, as the blog says, all truth in the Gospels is mystical, how do we know Jesus' vegetarian teaches are not signifying of something else all together instead of literally binding.
Also, I find this highly unlikely seeing as how it wasn't even posted with a source:
Contrary to the claims of so many, Nicea had nothing to do with the canon, that was settled later at the Councils of Carthage and Hippo.Archdeacon Wilberforce of Westminster said "that after the Council of Nicea, AD 325, the MSS. of the New Testament were considerably tampered with". And Professor Nestlé in his "introduction to the Textual Criticism of the Greek Testament" tells us that certain scholars, called correctors, were appointed by the ecclesiastical authorities, and actually commissioned to correct the text of Scripture in the interest of what was considered ORTHODOXY.
It does seem that some scribes altered the text in places to correct what they thought were errors in the copy, but it's nothing but an argument from silence to claim that they altered anything doctrinally significant....the compass of existence held more than my text-books had revealed, more than I had ever dreamed of. In short I lost my superiority, and this, though I was not then aware of it, is the first step towards finding God.-A.J. Cronin

Re: "The Essene Gospels of Peace"
Actually from what I have been reading lately Nicea set the precedent that led to what you are calling establishing canon. It was the very concept initiated by Constantine that some sort of senate type of body could exercise a legislative function and establish what was in essence church law. This was a radical departure from the authority of prophets then and Jesus delivering the word of God. It ushered in the concept that a vote of men could establish doctrine and purge anything that they deemed unsuitable. Here is a fairly good overview. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/First_Council_of_Nicaea
