Glory Seed Devotional’s, 2016: Year of the Blessing…
One chapter ends and a new chapter begins…
Shalom!

“He came into the very world he created, but the world didn’t recognize him. He came to his own people, and even they rejected him. But to all who believed him and accepted him, he gave the right to become children of God. They are reborn—not with a physical birth resulting from human passion or plan, but a birth that comes from God.” (John 1:10–13, NLT)

Everything about Jesus’ birth leads up to the truth that “the world didn’t recognize him.” Born. Born out of wedlock. Born into a carpenters family. Born in barn. Jesus birth makes me think if under those circumstances if Jesus were to be born this year instead of back then would I recognize him? The curious thing about not recognizing Jesus was the fact that his own people knew him. “They said, “Isn’t this Jesus, the son of Joseph? We know his father and mother. How can he say, ‘I came down from heaven’?” (John 6:42, NLT)

This morning as I write these words I am asking myself what is there about Jesus that I recognize Him as my Savior, Friend, Brother, Son of God, Prince of Peace? After all I’ve never actually seen Him perform a miracle, I’ve never heard Him preach a sermon, tell a parable, I’ve never sat around a campfire and listened to Him teach. I’ve never once heard Him say, “Gary, I love you.” Yet in spite of all that I not only know what I know (like those of old) I also recognize what I recognize and while I have no way of proving it my personal experience tells me Jesus is everything and more the bible and my life tells me.

Our recognition of Jesus as Emmanuel, God with us, does not come from a book or each other, from books and testimonies we gain knowledge of Jesus but when we choose to use our knowledge of Jesus in our everyday life the Holy Spirit takes our relationship with Jesus from head knowledge to heart recognition. Every life story consists of many chapters. Because I choose to acknowledge the Holy Spirit’s input into my life’s story I believe the birth of Jesus to be a new beginning for me. The chapters of my life end and begin at Christmas time. Chapter 70 will end Christmas Eve 2016 and chapter 71 will begin Christmas Day 2016.

It is my prayer that you might take some time and reflect back on 2016 and your life events and recognizing Jesus’ participation in them allow the Holy Spirit to seed and begin a new chapter in your life and at the same time becoming a platform of hope upon which the next chapter will be written.

“I pray that God, the source of hope, will fill you completely with joy and peace because you trust in him. Then you will overflow with confident hope through the power of the Holy Spirit.”**

GRACE and PEACE,
Gary
