Re: Is it ok to hit or beat wives ?
I think the quoran defenders should say some passages are not meant to be understood.
I do not think anyone, Muslim or Christian should try and defend wife beating tappingor any form of physical violence.
If there is no room for the contradiction between the two you have yourselfs a moral delimma, could the writers of the quoran be wrong? could the wqriter have made a mistake? sure seems like it.
No defense of physical violence towards women, lets stop and all say, we won't beat our or anyone else's wifes, not only is it wrong, its against the law!
Next, no sex with goats or other non-consenting animals, lwets all agree on this, also lets not fly airplanes into buildings even if the biuilding contains the IRS, God whether Islamic or Christian know s if there si an organization that can drive men to fly planes into buildings its the irs.

Their prophet married a six year old girl - a 52 year old man sexually forcing himself on a baby girl. I'm going to go and puke now (on a picture of Muhammad in my toilet).

“And so I tell you, keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you.
For everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who seeks, finds. And to everyone who knocks, the door will be opened.

Re: Is it ok to hit or beat wives ?
I'm not sure I would advise a sola scriptura movement if the "scriptura" is the Koran (I think that's the problem we're dealing with now). I'd say they need an enlightenment rather than another religious revival. So rather than Martin Luther I'd hope to see a David Hume, Adam Smith, Thomas Jefferson, etc. The enlightenment saved Europe (it wasn't religious reformers, although there's a good argument that religious reform is the spark that lit the fuse, ultimately it was secularist rational thinkers who saved the day & were largely responsible for the liberties we enjoy today).

Because it was put down in writing over 500 years after the death of the prophet. I see the beauty in the Qu'ran, not in the Hadeeth.

Re: Is it ok to hit or beat wives ?
"Cursed is the one who trusts in man,
who depends on flesh for his strength
and whose heart turns away from the LORD.
He will be like a bush in the wastelands;
he will not see prosperity when it comes.
He will dwell in the parched places of the desert, in a salt land where no one lives.
"But blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD,
whose confidence is in Him.
He will be like a tree planted by the water
that sends out its roots by the stream.
It does not fear when heat comes;
its leaves are always green.
It has no worries in a year of drought
and never fails to bear fruit."
-Jeremiah17:5-8, NIV

Re: Is it ok to hit or beat wives ?
Have you read it? The pagan Arabs mistook Mohammad's religion for a Christian offshoot. God is merciful, forgiving and just. Thats the main message of the Qu'ran.
Do you know what God you worship through Christ? Did you know Jesus called God Elaw, or Alla? A middle eastern God...
OG Jews.

Re: Is it ok to hit or beat wives ?
Sorry if i came of abrasive, but as a Christian, I read the Qu'ran and really didnt see any conflicting views, beyond the view of Jesus being lifted up from is crucifixion instead of killed (Mohammad thought Jesus was to pure to die), I cant lie in general I was moved by the Qu'ran.
