  • Islamic Homework Assignment

An entire school district in Virginia was closed after a teacher gave an Arabic calligraphy assignment to her students. The students were supposed to write, "There is no god but Allah and Muhammad is the messenger of Allah" in Arabic calligraphy. I think the teacher should have asked them to write something else like "My name is ..."

Here is a video about it:

...thus making them all Muslim. Nice.
Enter the Church and wash away your sins. For here there is a hospital and not a court of law. Do not be ashamed to enter the Church; be ashamed when you sin, but not when you repent. – St. John Chrysostom

The teacher should be forced to calligraphize* "I am a blundering idiot and a disgrace to public education....."

*yes, that is now a word, henceforth and hitherto!
The first to state his case seems right until another comes and cross-examines him.

            Is somesuch even a word?

            (if not, it should be)

(And I think I'm having a deja vu)

Just scribble it in the margin, then edit wikipedia to reflect the 'correction'.

But isn't it supposed to be spoken in order to be official?

And I'm disappointed from what I can understand about the reaction. Over the top.

The teacher should not have required the students to write that. It is not right to require someone to affirm something in writing that he or she does not believe in.

Could you imagine the uproar if the students were required to write John 14:6 on a sheet of paper?

I do not think so. What would the reaction have been if they were required to write out John 3:16? The reaction to this Islamic item should be at least as strong.
Micah 6:8 He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the LORD require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?
