Railroad Ties Need to Absolutely be Banned!
By now, you all have probably seen the horrific images of city youths beating another youth to death with railroad ties in Chicago. Now, I applaud Chicago for banning guns, but they need to take it a step further - ban railroad ties! That's right, railroad ties. We all know that railroad ties kill people. We need to ban these implements of death and pass laws for anyone wanting to carry lumber or railroad ties must have these weapons registered. That way we can track who the criminals are and stop them from getting these deadly weapons. This will stop the killings once and for all in Chicago. Wood kills!

It should be worth pointing out that if leftists and moderates find the Opening post offensive, because decoski is whoring out the tragic death of an innocent kid (even though in satire) to push an agenda, you ought to understand, this is exactly the same way we see you when you whore out victims of anecdotal cases of gun violence to push an anti-gun agenda.

Re: Railroad Ties Need to Absolutely be Banned!
The usual response to this (you can use almost anything to do harm, so let's ban everything) is this:
Railroad ties, kitchen knives, baseball bats etc are all made for some other purpose, and are being misused when they are used as weapons. Guns are specifically designed to do harm. If we ban guns, there will be no equivalent of the inability to build railroad tracks, cut up food or play baseball. My name is Tony.

Re: Railroad Ties Need to Absolutely be Banned!
The logical and sane solution to this problem, then, is to create a gun that is designed to do other things than do harm.

......I say we ban martial artists.
Speaking of this kind of crap. I wonder if the TSA is going to start making people that have black belts be hancuffed during any flight since they're considered lethal weapons.

I don't disagree with the OP. IRRC Washington DC has one of the highest murder rates in the country, and handguns are outlawed.

Re: Railroad Ties Need to Absolutely be Banned!
Which is true, but an oversimplification of the usefulness of guns.
The mere presence of guns in the hands of law abiding citizens deters criminals from committing crimes. If we ban guns there will be an "equivalent" inability for law abiding citizens to use guns to deter crimes.
When the presence of guns alone does not deter crime, the presence of guns in the hands of law abiding citizens can be used to defend the innocent.
Guns (like railroad ties, kitchen knives, baseball bats etc.) can be put to good use or to bad use.
If we ban guns, (in addition to violating of the 2nd amendment) we will outlaw almost all good uses for guns and make it easier for the criminals to use guns for bad purposes.
To say that guns are designed for "hurting people" is a gross oversimplification of the purpose of guns.
I doubt that many law abiding citizens go to a gun store and say,'hey, I want to hurt someone, I think I will buy a gun.' And I doubt that a criminal intent on hurting someone will say, 'hey, guns are illegal, so I will have to find some other means to hurt people.'
So yes, guns are designed to hurt people. But that does not mean that they have no other useful purpose. (Sport shooting, hunting, crime deterrent, self defense). In fact they are designed for MORE than just hurting people. They are designed for target practice, hunting, crime deterrent and self defense as well. (OK so that last one does involve hurting people, but it ALSO helps the person defending themselves or others).
A gun, like any other object, can be used to inflict harm. But guns can be used for for more productive purposed as well.Where is human nature so weak as in the bookstore?- Henry Ward Beecher

Re: Railroad Ties Need to Absolutely be Banned!
"Years ago, I mean decades ago, I read a quote about politicians performing quid pro quo favors for campaign cash, and whether or not we could prove it. The guy who was quoted opined that it was difficult to determine. He noted that in many cases, the payoff might not take the form of votes on legislative action -- those might be detectable, and so are avoided -- but could take subtler forms, like the question that is never asked at a hearing.
The media's doing a terrific job of not asking questions it doesn't want to know the answer to. It doesn't ask these questions in bulk, and the great volume of questions it doesn't ask makes it cheap to not ask questions.
And it passes these savings on to you, the customer." Ace
