Irene Vilar said she had the abortions not from poverty or fear but as an extraordinary act of rebellion against her 'controlling' husband who did not want children.

The cycle of pregnancies and abortions, which began when she was 16 and ended when she was 33, was also punctuated by several suicide attempts.

This is obviously a very disturbed woman as evidenced by her multiple suicide attempts as well as the fact that she had abortions to rebel against a husband who didn’t want kids (wouldn’t he be happy she was aborting them?). She needs help and our prayers.

I think people who are mentally unstable should not reproduce, especially if they are unfit to take care of the child. Enforced sterilization should not be the first line of defense though, education should.

A dear friend of my dad-in-law has a sister that has an IQ of 79, and she can't care for herself without help. She doesn't have a real firm grip on reality. Well, he went out of town for the weekend, and the neighbor came by and coerced her into having sex with him, leading to a pregnancy. She isn't at all able to take care of a baby, so I would have been in favor of forced birth control for someone like her.
