Re: Bachelor breadbaking!
I'm on a hiatus from bread-baking. There are several pounds of Christmas goodies yet to be eaten (and lost
).

Make that 1 for 3.
Note to self: Probably better to avoid putting things in the oven after 2 am and a big bowl of pasta.

They didn't actually burn, but they've got something of a hard-candy shell now. I can't give them to guests, though I could probably get away with force feeding them to unsuspecting cats and small children.

Almost anything can be salvaged as long as it wasn't burned:
Cut them up, drizzle with chocolate and/or glaze and call 'em bar cookies.
Cut off the hard part, tear into chunks and use for fondue.
Cut off the hard part, dip in chocolate, place in small cupcake liners, poke in a stick and call 'em cake pops.
Drench in glaze and pretend they are supposed to be that color (a really wet glaze may solve the crust problem).
If you really insist on animal consumption:
Chop them up and scatter around the bushes as bird feed.
And stop trying to bake at 2 am!
Oh, to answer your question, I'm doing the real life thing. I will be going back in January...

Re: Bachelor breadbaking!
I ate the one that's missing. It really isn't that bad, the crust is just a little extra crunchy. There aren't any real "hard parts" in the dough. Doesn't actually taste bad at all. But the over-enthusiastic brown sugar mix kind of crystallized in the over-baking, so it's got rivers of hard-candy running through it, too. It's gonna be hell cleaning that pan.
Hmm ... I'm still leaning toward force feeding to unsuspecting children. If you really insist on animal consumption:
Chop them up and scatter around the bushes as bird feed.
And stop trying to bake at 2 am!

Soon enough for me, too. But 'til then, Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!Oh, to answer your question, I'm doing the real life thing. I will be going back in January...

Soak, dump, brush, repeat...
It's slow, but it beats scrubbing.
Let the water do the work.
:stocking: Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you, too! :runhappy:

Re: Bachelor breadbaking!
It turned out they came out of the pan pretty easily. Only minor mess.

Here's a top and bottom view of the rolls. It's really not that bad, I just can't get away with giving them away as Christmas presents. There is no lao tzu.

If you look at the sides of them, texture is good. They probably taste OK, even if they aren't so cute.
Next time they ought to turn out fine.I have been honored as an Enemy of Nee™ and LAu Tzu hasn't!

Aww, thanks, Mossy.
Well, this is a "bachelor" breadbaking thread. It wouldn't be complete without a tragedy or two. I think I'm gonna lick my wounds on this one and try again for New Year's. In the meantime, I've got another kitchen disaster to deal with.I know I would have.
:huggy:
Ever tried to get a fridge repairman to make a housecall around the holidays? Only took me three days, and now I've got to wait for a part to ship. I think this would be a real tragedy if I wasn't vegetarian. But I can still bake bread!
