Re: Anyone planning to run a D&D 3.5 campaign?
Aiden has heard of Yellowback. He's an owner of several properties in a dubious section of town, most noteably the Flustered Gnome which is a seedy inn and tavern. He engages in money lending and is rumored to be a bit of a knave. He is also said to be a fast talker.
Micah 6:6. With what shall I come before the Lord, bow before the Most High G-d? Shall I come before Him with burnt offerings, with yearling calves? 7. Will the Lord be pleased with thousands of rams, with myriad streams of oil? Shall I give my firstborn for my transgression, the fruit of my body for the sin of my soul? 8. He has told you, O man, what is good, and what the Lord demands of you; but to do justice, to love loving-kindness, and to walk discreetly with your G-d.

Dumdum looks angry. "Yellowback Dumdum friend. Need help friend."
What the world thinks the most valuable exhibition of the Dao is to be found in books. But books are only a collection of words. Words have what is valuable in them - what is valuable in words is the ideas they convey. But those ideas are a sequence of something else - and what that something else is cannot be conveyed by words. When the world, because of the value which it attaches to words, commits them to books, that for which it so values them may not deserve to be valued - because that which it values is not what is really valuable. Thus it is that what we look at and can see is (only) the outward form and colour, and what we listen to and can hear is (only) names and sounds. Alas! that men of the world should think that form and colour, name and sound, should be sufficient to give them the real nature of the Dao. The form and colour, the name and sound, are certainly not sufficient to convey its real nature; and so it is that 'the wise do not speak and those who do speak are not wise.' How should the world know that real nature?

"I understand that, Dumdum, but I think he is not telling you everything. He's a money-lender and a dishonourable person, or so the stories go, taking advantage of people when they are in trouble, whoever is being mean to him probably has a good reason to do that. I vote for dealing with the Elasmosauruses first and then going to look for Shoulin."

Maverick pipes up, "Perhaps, Aidan, it would be prudent not to jump to conclusions. Even people of questionable morals aren't exempt from misfortune, nor undeserving of aid in such times. I say we find out the nature of Yellowback's problem before we help."

"You speak wisely, good Maverick, please accept my apologies. We can investigate and hear out whatever complaint this other person has against Yellowback, I sincerely wish to avoid acting or being seen to act as an enforcer for a loan shark. I was under the impression that the matter with the Elasmosauruses was rather urgent, is that not right Keyleth?"

[Is nobody else going to vote on what we do next? I've voted for the Elasmosauruses followed by looking for Shoulin, I think Chrs was in favour of that as well from the shoutbox, at least before we heard of the other options. If we're not too depleted after that, then we can go and see Yellowback's opponent, or leave that for the following day. Is that acceptable to everyone?]

[I'd vote Elasmosauruses then Yellowback. Shoulin sounds epic enough to need a full day's preparation. No going in half-depleted...
The courier job should be simpler, in theory, but will take us out of the city for a few days. Maverick can elaborate on his impression of Yellowback while we head to the elasmosauruses. Keyleth should probably look up info on the Elasmosauruses while we're free, so we know what we're getting into and prepare accordingly.]What the world thinks the most valuable exhibition of the Dao is to be found in books. Re: Anyone planning to run a D&D 3.5 campaign?
That evening, Keyleth goes to Birel's library. After a few hours, she finds the correct book. She tells the party that an Elasmosaurus is a huge animal. It has a large body, long neck, and flippers instead of feet. It is an aggressive beast and on the hunt most of the time. They typically swim with their head and part of their neck visible above the water. They have a single bite attack. The normal adult is 30' long, but specimens have been found up to 50' long.
