Oliver Stone's Secret History of America

      http://www.guardian.co.uk/film/2010/...-stone-history
Stone told the Television Critics Association that "we can't judge people as only 'bad' or 'good'. [Hitler] is the product of a series of actions. It's cause and effect. People in America don't know the connection between WWI and WWII."

      ....

The comment inspired Stone's collaborator on his Secret History, Peter Kuznick, a history professor at the Washington-based American University, to tell the audience of television critics and, in an apparent damage-limitation exercise: "He's not saying we're going to come out with a more positive view of Hitler. But we're going to describe him as a historical phenomenon."
Well, I agree that it's good to show the connections between WWI and II, but I think that to imply that this somehow lessens Hitler's responsibility for the evils of his regime (which would seem to be the implications of Stone's above comment) is a little crazy. Even a hard core determinist will admit that there is still the "illusion" of choice.

Any other comments on the film?
...the compass of existence held more than my text-books had revealed, more than I had ever dreamed of. In short I lost my superiority, and this, though I was not then aware of it, is the first step towards finding God.-A.J. Cronin
the burn notice commercial worked beautifully, the actual vid just froze. well played google-yxboom

Don't know how I missed this post or the movie although I probably would have bean barfing by the end of it . . .

Hitler and Stalin were humans? Gee never thought . . . Hitler probably loved his dog Blondie.

That Hitler (started a war that resulted in over . . . 100 million dead world wide) and geez Stalin (murdered or caused the death of around 50 million of his own people before and after the war) is anything other than the spawn of Satan is revisionist history at its worst.

I can only hope he made some money cause that's the only thing that might have come of good out of such a movie.

Haven't seen it, don't want to see it. WWI and the aftermath, (including the Treaty of Versailles) were in lage part responsible for the atmosphere that allowed Hitler to come to power, but were not responsible for the decisions Hitler made once he got there. I've never been a fan of Oliver Stone. He may spin a good tale, but to try to pass it off as a possible reality? Nah. I just wish people would stop trying to rewrite history, revisionism is never a good idea.
