I worked as a janitor when I was in college, and yes this is (or was 50 or so years ago) true.

If you actually had transgender acquaintances I doubt you would have such absurdly and completely wrong beliefs about what transgender people think about themselves. e.g. your delusional view that transgender people have a psychosis because they have false beliefs about the biological sex of their own body.

It's not a delusional belief. You've seen (and even commented) on the peer review work that acknowledges it, and I do, in fact, know a number of trans and queer people. Trans people in general have always been associated with the scene I'm in going back before Wayne/Jayne County. But I'm not really anxious that some internet nobody all the way in New Zealand doesn't believe me. I wasn't even talking to you.

I do recall what you commented. You thought that it was somehow relevant to split hairs and announce that transgenderism isn't psychosis, but that psychosis sometimes causes transgenderism. Either way, it didn't counter the point I made that Leonhard bristled at, which was "There's something dark, and evil at work in a society that pretends that a child who is suffering from severe psychosis is perfectly fine." As the first paper I linked pointed out, the delusion is either caused by a "pure gender disorder" or psychosis.

"The question arises whether a clear differentiation can be made between pure gender identity disorders and secondary transsexual feelings that are part of an ongoing psychopathological development, such as schizophrenia. The potential diagnostic confusion is illustrated by a case history of a male schizophrenic patient. This patient had been treated hormonally for transsexualism for years before acute psychotic decompensation occurred. Neuroleptic treatment of the psychosis rapidly reduced the psychotic symptoms. In retrospect, the patient regards his transsexual period as a 'mistake'. Delusions about one's physical appearance and the urge to drastically change the way one looks appear to be relatively common in patients suffering from schizophrenia.

I don't much care which of the two it is. The fact that psychologists are confused about what specifically causes delusional thinking about one's gender doesn't change the fact that there's something deeply troubling about a society that pretends that severe disorder is perfectly normal, something to be cherished even.
