DMT: The Spirit Molecule?
I've recently been reading a book (not sure why...but I have) titled: "DMT: The Spirit Molecule".
It's actually kind of interesting, and seems appropriate for this kind of forum. The author is of course, Dr. Rick Strassman.
For those who are unaware...DMT is a powerful tryptamine...which is a naturally occurring chemical in the human body, as well as many other animals, and plants. This particular chemical has very powerful, if short-lasting psychedelic effects. It is present in our brains, and there is speculation as to whether the chemical is released in abundance at the time of death...in order to ease the experience...and could also be related to dreams.
Dr. Rick Strassman seems to be suggesting that perhaps there is a link between the molecule...which is incredibly small...and the spirit...or even spiritual realm.
I find this interesting...as a lot of the experiences reported by his volunteers seem to coincide with many things written in biblical texts. As well many of the effects experienced are similar to those described in near death experiences. For example...those who have undergone the tests...and taken the chemical claim to see a "tunnel"...as well they may see beings...which are not "physical" but rather "alien" in nature...and are "welcoming" in some way. Of course these beings have also been described as "reptilian, or insect-like".
I wonder if it's possible, that ancient mystics were interpreting the effects of NDE's (near death experiences) and DMT as "spiritual". Perhaps writings of a tunnel leading to heaven, and the notion of angels, and beings of a higher level were all part of this conception.
Perhaps it's all just power of suggestion while under this powerful psychedelic. Perhaps those who "believe" have a higher concentration of the chemical and causes them to display a more "spiritual" approach.edge you kate hour chilled run

"A strong body makes the mind strong. As to the species of exercises, I advise the gun. While this gives moderate exercise to the body, it gives boldness, enterprise and independence to the mind. Games played with the ball, and others of that nature, are too violent for the body and stamp no character on the mind. Let your gun therefore be your constant companion of your walks."

Doing DMT under those controlled environments will seriously "color" the experience.

Then Morgoth turned upon Húrin, and he said: 'Fool, little among Men, and they are the least of all that speak! Have you seen the Valar, or measured the power of Manwë and Varda?
Do you know the reach of their thought? Or do you think, perhaps, that their thought is upon you, and that they may shield you from afar?'
'I know not,' said Húrin. 'Yet so it might be, if they willed. For the Elder King shall not be dethroned while Arda endures.'
