It doesn't sound like it was intended to get people to church, more like a men's fellowship outing.

both. it was put on by the men's ministry, but nearly half of the attendees don't go to the church. They were invited by members. Great way to get people to church and to fellowship.

It doesn't sound like a "circus" to get people into church, IMO. Actually, I wonder i Spurgeon was talking about the church service being circus-like--which this event wasn't. Sunday morning worship is one thing, most everything else going on in a church is another.

Guess where I just got back from?

Our church had a Wild Game Feed night for the men. Ate some deer sausage, some unknown mystery meat sloppy joes, and had a great time. then they gave away door prizes, like compound bows, muzzle loaders and an Arctic Cat ATV (no I didn't win anything)

The we went to the main auditorium where we had a country band playing songs about hunting and America™! The Men's Ministry pastor got up on stage, said a few words and gave away some door prizes, then one of the other guys who helped put on the show surprised him by giving him a thirty-ought-six rifle. Then we had Ken Davis (a Christian comedian) get up and give us a wonderful show and his testimony and he led us in prayer. Then more country songs and an invitation time.

then on the way out they gave us bibles with camo covers.

Dang. I wish every church day was like this! You don't see guns and bows too often at church.

You know you're in a good Redneck Church when the Pastor calls on "Bubba" to dismiss in prayer, and five men and a woman stand up to pray.

I could tell you some good redneck church stories, but what you shared sounds downright "normal" to me!

2,000 - 3,000? I can't even imagine a church building that can hold that many people.

What's the size of your congregation? I thought my church was a bit crowded that time we had 60 people attend one service.

I think we have around 15 to 20,000 members but not all show up at once. We have three services (one on Saturday, two on Sunday)
