One should not avoid the subject simply because you don't like the one who presents it! Where is such an attitude condoned in the Bible? The example of Jesus is that he went into the den of the enemy! Get with it! Debate, seriously!

the word for "depart" in hebrew is yatsa

      and it means:

      1. to cause to go or come out, bring out, lead out
      2. to bring out of
      3. to lead out
      4. to deliver
so a premature birth or unexpected delivery is a better translation in modern english than "depart"

and mischief could mean either the mother or baby dying.
Hmmmmm! So, a book that was good for nearly 400 years is no longer any good? Just think of the millions of people who were led astray by the "Inspired Word of God!" The horror of it all! How could the "All-knowing God" not have forseen that His Word would be so mal-treated and misunderstood and that millions of souls would be lost because they did not get the original meaning of His message?! Mercy! Mercy!

Thanks for doing the Lord's work for Him and telling me the real meaning here!

I think you are way out of line. Why do you have to be so uncivilized?

Moreover Exodus 21, which you brought into this thread, has nothing to do with abortion in no matter what translation, since the verses you quote refer to a fight involving a pregnant woman. I understand that you brought this part of the bible into this discussion as one of the members mentioned something about harm to the mother, but if it is only to divert this thread to your absurdity-busting-hobby, then I suggest you put Exodus 21 on your personal thread on the apologetics forum!

As to abortion, I would like to know if any of you consider rape and incest a legit motive to consider abortion.

No. Murdering a growing human being doesn't do anything whatsoever to help the rape or incest.

Then Morgoth turned upon Húrin, and he said: 'Fool, little among Men, and they are the least of all that speak! Have you seen the Valar, or measured the power of Manwë and Varda?
Do you know the reach of their thought? Or do you think, perhaps, that their thought is upon you, and that they may shield you from afar?'

I totally agree with you but I find it very interesting that you, a man, say this. Most men I have met professionally in cases of severe rape, are the ones who have most problems with a growing human in the body of their beloved one. Their emotional involvement is extreme fanatic and they have real problems in separating the new life from the way how it was put there.

I've never understood why incest was listed under the exceptions in the first place...

As far as rape goes, pregnancy happens so rarely (i've heard anywhere from 4% to less), that making an exception or not seems hardly worth considering. I mean, let it be a case by case basis.

      Re: Abortion

I would support an exception in the case of rape (reported at the time of the occurrence), but only if abortion was banned under all other circumstances (oh, throw in incest if you will). That would be far better than what we have now. I am opposed to abortion in general and this would only be to toss a sop to baby killers.

No matter how the baby got there, it is there and it deserves a chance at life. Condemning it to death for the sin of its father shouldn't even be considered, IMO. Abortion should only ever be considered MAYBE if the mother's life is at risk; and even then I have mixed feelings.
