  • UC San Diego Students Protest Visit by Oppressive and Offensive Dalai Lama

Take note everyone, this is your brain on social justice.

It should be noted that it is the Dalai Lama who is the victim as he is in exile of his own country.

It doesn't take much intelligence to be a liberal.

In fact, I think the dumber you are, the easier it is.

Pardon my ignorance, but why is he perceived as oppressive, exactly?

Dumb dumb, do you get that this is "Chinese students" protesting the Dalai Lama? This has zero to do with social justice. The Chinese hate the Dalai Lama, and the last time he visited my country the Chinese government responded by blocking our meat trade with China because they were annoyed our government didn't stop him coming.

He's critical of the Chinese government for taking over Tibet. Some Chinese students have appropriated a certain famous phrase by insisting "Chinese lives matter" because they appear not to be able to handle anybody who criticizes their country.

The Chinese government have tried to ensure he is the last Dalai Lama by passing a law making it illegal to reincarnate in China without government permission.

Lol. As if the celestial beaurocracy must kowtow to the earthly one.

I recommend "Seven Years in Tibet" for anyone who wants to read a cool adventure story, an enlightening travel narrative, and a basic understanding of the culture and politics behind it. But read/listen to the book-- don't watch the movie.

The Chinese government claims that the Dalai Lama, who is pretty much a pacifist, is behind some violent protests.

I'm always still in trouble again

Maybe they mean like by some of his previous incarnations in the ancient world or the middle ages?

Chinese students are leading objections to the event, which will see the Dalai Lama give a commencement speech on graduation day.

They have claimed that his presence is offensive because of his campaign to make Tibet more independent

I'm guessing he was replying to me with that one. Obviously he forgot that he is on my ignore list for being a disingenuous dunderhead.

You can reply to others in this thread but don't reply to me because obviously you're not going to get a reply.
