Sarah Palin, hypocrite extraordinaire
If a liberal does it, he should be fired... but if it's a conservative, it's OK.
At least that's what Palin is saying.
This is wrong when liberals pull this type of crap, and it's wrong when conservatives do.
And by that I mean the hypocrisy, not the word 'retard'. That's another pandora's box.
The most ironic part of the whole thing is that the allegedly conservative Palin is complaining about the White House calling liberals retards.

Oh yeah, and for anyone who was wondering, R. Emmanuel & R. Limbaugh were talking about the exact same thing - just in case you think Sarah was telling the truth. Here's the exact quote from Limbaugh:
"Our political correct society is acting like some giant insult’s taken place by calling a bunch of people who are retards, retards. I mean these people, these liberal activists are kooks. They are looney tunes. And I’m not going to apologize for it, I’m just quoting Emanuel. It’s in the news. I think their big news is he’s out there calling Obama’s number one supporters [...] retards. So now there’s going to be a meeting. There’s going to be a retard summit at the White House."Last edited by Crow; February 9th 2010 at 04:57 PM.

Re: Sarah Palin, hypocrite extraordinaire
Perhaps you didn't read his thread, this has nothing to do with Rush, but rather with Palin. If Rush want to be a fool, so be it. Palin is hypocritical, not because she isn't calling for Rush to resigb from his propoganda radio job, but rather because she fails to express the same righteous indignation that she directed toward Rahm. I personally don't expect much differently from Palin, however. It is not clear to me that she is bright enough to understand her hypocricy. I'm more concerned of others who overlook her glaring shortcomings.

Oh, but with Rush it was just satire! on the R-word. Sure, sure.

In my opinion, the single most telling piece of evidence that shows how poorly we're manifesting our call to care for animals is the recent creation of factory farms. Over the last century we have, to a large degree, reduced farm animals to commercialized commodities whose only value is found in how efficiently we can produce and slaughter them for profit. Consequently, more than 26 billion animals each year are forced to live in miserable, overcrowded warehouses, where there is absolutely nothing natural about their existence and where they are subjected to barbaric, painful, industrial procedures.

Re: Sarah Palin, hypocrite extraordinaire
If you don't listen to what Rush says and how he often gets his point across, you miss how he works and you wind up looking stupid.
You can call it what you want, but Rush often satirizes the left by using terms that would normally be considered offensive, but somehow are passed off as acceptable when a liberal politician uses it. The song "Barak the magic negro" was the same thing. Liberals were (and continue to be) all up in arms over the use of this phrase, and yet what it does is satirize an LA Times liberal columnist who used this exact phrase as the title of his column. And that guy was serious about it.
So, while you attempt to write off Rush's use of the term, you identify exactly how he uses it. It is intended to be an ongoing reminder of the hypocrisy of the left, how they can use offensive language and even attack the weak and those who cannot defend themselves, and continue to slide by as the liberal news media ignores them.
Not that it should be a surprise. I mean, Teddy Kennedy murdered a woman, and his story was like swiss cheese after a shotgun blast, and they let him get away with that.

Are you talking to Hooks or to me ? You listen to and hear the radio show quote. It's all over the place, internet and TV.
See, the offensive meaning of the word, as Sarah Palin sees it, is right there..just the same. Personally, I don't care about "retard," but she does.

Re: Sarah Palin, hypocrite extraordinaire
But you don't hear in what context Rush uses it. He's mocking Rahm, and indirectly mocking the liberal drive-by media, because of their use and lack of reaction to its use.
And what Rush is doing is pointing out that it is offensive, but that nothing is being done about it, because of who said it.See, the offensive meaning of the word, as Sarah Palin sees it, is right there..just the same. Personally, I don't care about "retard," but she does.

Re: Sarah Palin, hypocrite extraordinaire
1. I don't think Palin should've complained about the use of the word retarded, particularly since rahm's use was quite accurate
2. Yoshi is still a moron who has yet to figure out (like the rest of his liberal horde) that rush relies heavily on satire that sounds bad when decontextualized through sound bytes. It's a great way to get stupid people like yoshi to keep him in the public eye and boost his ratings. Maybe he can buy a manor with all the money people like yoshi make him and name it after him.
although to be fair, palin did criticize rush at first, probably because she doesn't listen to him either.
"Years ago, I mean decades ago, I read a quote about politicians performing quid pro quo favors for campaign cash, and whether or not we could prove it. The guy who was quoted opined that it was difficult to determine. He noted that in many cases, the payoff might not take the form of votes on legislative action -- those might be detectable, and so are avoided -- but could take subtler forms, like the question that is never asked at a hearing.
The media's doing a terrific job of not asking questions it doesn't want to know the answer to. It doesn't ask these questions in bulk, and the great volume of questions it doesn't ask makes it cheap to not ask questions.
And it passes these savings on to you, the customer." Ace

Re: Sarah Palin, hypocrite extraordinaire
In general I think the word should not be used pejoritivly or as satire. Emmanuel needs to quit being an • Edited by a Moderator • and apologize for it. Fired? Maybe. But held to account for it, absolutely.
I also think Rush's use, even if only using it to poke fun at someone else, is in poor taste.
So for me it's a "both are wrong" thing rather than a "only one of them can be wrong" thing.

Re: Sarah Palin, hypocrite extraordinaire
The first post was about how Palin was offended over one person using "retard" in a pejorative manner but not offended over another person using "retard" in a pejorative manner. If she wasn't offended by Limbaugh, she was faking offense in the other case. Or she was offended by something else, not using "retard" as a pejorative.
Everyone discussing whether it is acceptable for these two guys to use such language in their jobs is entirely missing the original point of this thread.
