Best Presidents
Who do you think were the five best U.S. Presidents? I'm not sure of the exact five, but I offer John Tyler, Grover Cleveland, and Franklin Pierce as contenders. I'd also consider Thomas Jefferson, Martin van Buren, and Warren Harding.

There are very few US Presidents of whom it could not be said "He did the best he could." Even Bush 43, who currently has one of the lowest popularity ratings of any president since they started keeping score....
Don't get me wrong--I despised, and still despise, many of the actions Bush took while in office, and if he were eligible for the office, I would vote against him even if it meant I had to vote Democrat. The one thing that can be said is that he did his best to serve the nation. "His best" may not meet the approval of everyone (it certainly doesn't meet with my approval, if that matters), but if nothing else, I do have to respect the man for giving a 100% effort.Life sometimes needs to be grabbed by the throat and beaten with a lead pipe. ~ Sir Longpost, a good friend of mine.

Re: Best Presidents
Al Gore was absolutely the best President.
He was duly elected but did not serve a day. That's pretty close to perfection in my book.

Everybody always slams me for this, but I like the "mighty five": Washington, Jefferson, Roosevelt, Lincoln, and Kennedy.

I'd say Lincoln, Reagan, Washington, Teddy Roosevelt, and Andrew Jackson.

Re: Best Presidents
I think Ford gets short shrift. He had a real mess to untangle and I think he did the right things. Not the best president but better than history gives him credit for.

My most recent faith struggle is not one of intellect. I don't really do that anymore. Sooner or later you just figure out there are some guys who don't believe in God and they can prove He doesn't exist, and some other guys who can prove He does exist, and the argument stopped being about God a long time ago and now it's about who is smarter, and honestly, I don't care. ~ Don Miller Blue Like Jazz
