Cult Targets College Students

The World Mission Society Church of God, a cult from Korea, (no, not the Moonies this time)
is recruiting on campus. They are secretive, exclusivist and boast of a membership of over one million followers. Students who join the movement are being subjected to a series of coercive psychological techniques (yes, just like the Moonies) designed to persuade them to turn over their lives to this mystical sect from the Far East.

Who Are They?

The Church of God is a destructive cult portraying itself as a mainstream religion. By exploiting Christian terminology and the Bible, they are manipulating their followers to further the goals of the movement, namely money and power. A former Seventh-day Adventist, and self proclaimed messiah, "Ahnsahnghong" founded the organization in Korea in 1964.

After his death and subsequent ascension to heaven in 1985, Ahnsahnghong was succeeded by his spiritual wife Zahng-Gil-Jah; also known as Mother God, Heavenly Mother and New Jerusalem Mother. Members pray to her and are encouraged to visit Korea to pay her homage. Mother God is the core of their faith.

What do they believe?

The World Mission Society Church of God is the only true church; all other churches are wrong.

The Second Coming of Jesus Christ occurred on May 14th, 1948; When Ahnsahnghong was baptized.

Baptism and Saturday Sabbath observance are necessary for salvation.

Only through Christ Ahnsahnghong and Heavenly Mother can one be saved.

The Cross is a pagan symbol, holiday and birthday celebrations are also considered pagan.

Celebrating the Passover protects one from harm; those failing to do so will be destroyed.

Jesus returned (as Ahnsahnghong) to restore the Passover which was abolished by Satan.
It was for the Passover that Jesus came; His death on the cross was little more than a fulfillment
of prophecy.

The Church of God rejects the doctrine of the Trinity and teaches the heresy of Modalism. They also deny that salvation is by grace through faith and instruct their follower's to pursue a rigorous system of works based righteousness.

Man pre-existed in heaven as angelic beings; the angels sinned and were cast upon the earth.

The Bible speaks prophetically of the rebuilding of the Holy Temple on Mount Moriah in Jerusalem.
Ahnsahnghong's followers believe that this event actually took place in Bundang-gu, Korea,in Sept. 2000, with the completion of the New Jerusalem Temple.

The "Gospel" according to Ahnsahnghong.

"The Passover is one of the most important feasts that God has granted because God, Our Father Christ Ahnsahnghong, promised to give us the forgiveness of our sins and eternal life through the Passover."

To receive eternal life, they believe, one must partake of the Tree of Life, (which typified Christ) spoken of in Genesis. Adam & Eve sinned and were forbidden to eat of the tree. Jesus came to rectify this by offering the bread & wine (his literal body and blood) at the Passover.

"Eating the bread and drinking the wine of the Passover is eating of the tree of life in the Garden of Eden."

The Passover was then abolished by Satan at the Council of Nicaea in AD 325, hence, forbidding access to the Tree of Life for nearly 2000 years.

Who on earth can have eternal life as the truth of life was abolished? (They ask)

Jesus said that he would come a second time to correct this. He returned as Christ Ahnsahnghong and reinstated the Passover, thus, access to the Tree of Life was available once again to all… members of the Church of God, that is.

Please believe in Christ Ahnsahnghong, our Savior in the age of the Holy Spirit,
so that you may receive eternal life! (http://english.watv.org)

By joining the Church and…

Keeping the Passover

Observing the Sabbath

Worshiping Mother God

Worshipping Christ Ahnsahnghong

Getting baptized

Remaining obedient

Paying your tithes

Recruiting new members

Forsaking family, friends and life as you knew it,

….you will be rewarded with the possibility of eternal life.

That my friend; is the good news proclaimed by the World Mission Society Church of God.

I see no need to delve into the biblical hopscotch used by this group to establish their position,
suffice it to say, their conclusion is a far cry from the simplicity of Paul's declaration found in
1st Corinthians chapter 15:

"Now, brothers, I want to remind you of the gospel I preached to you, which you received and on which you have taken your stand. By this gospel you are saved, if you hold firmly to the word I preached to you. Otherwise, you have believed in vain. For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures…"

Their Mission?

To subject you to an endless series of mind-numbing lectures and bible studies-in an isolated environment-in order to convince you of the group's radical beliefs. You will spend the rest of your life working for the organization with two goals in mind, bringing in money and ushering in new recruits.

You will also discover that shunning your family in order to achieve the objectives of the organization is paramount to pleasing God. Like Rev. Moon and the Unification Church, the Church of God has literally left thousands of shattered families in its wake. The businessmen at corporate headquarters and Heavenly Mother in her hillside mansion in Korea; have more important issues to concern themselves with other than the well being of you or your family.

"The coercive psychological influence of these programs aim to overcome the individual's critical thinking abilities and free will - apart from any appeal to informed judgment. Victims gradually lose their ability to make independent decisions and exercise informed consent. Their critical thinking, defenses, cognitive processes, values, ideas, attitudes, conduct and ability to reason are undermined by a technological process rather than by meaningful free choice, rationality, or the inherent merit or value of the ideas or propositions being presented." What can you do?

Please share this information with others.

The success of this movement is due, in part, to the fact that they maintain a high level of secrecy. Their churches are not listed in Internet directories and their "Elohim Bible Studies" are not listed on college campuses. They are also known to tamper with websites and threaten litigation in an effort to remove critical information about their organization-quite successfully-I might add.

The Church's "Campus Mission's Dept" has assigned scores of teams targeting universities across the nation. Elohists, as they refer to themselves, are skilled and extremely zealous in their effort to recruit students, not surprisingly, their membership continues to increase at an alarming rate.

"Potentially unsafe groups or leaders come off very nice at first, they go for vulnerable people who are looking for answers, lonely, what you'd call 'normal people.' They're very good at what they do and can get people to believe anything. You might think you'd never get taken in, but don't bet on it. "

A practical word of advice…

Unless you are thoroughly grounded in Scripture and familiar with the deceptive methods employed by the cults, I would advise you not to dialogue with them. Pray for them, yes, they are precious lost souls for whom Christ died, if you are not prepared however, I urge you to respectfully walk away.

Please bear in mind that membership in the Church of God and groups similar to this, are replete with sincere Christians who presumably… knew their bibles.
.

"But there were also false prophets among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you. They will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the sovereign Lord who bought them-bringing swift destruction on themselves. Many will follow their shameful ways and will bring the way of truth into disrepute. In their greed these teachers will exploit you with stories they have made up. Their condemnation has long been hanging over them, and their destruction has not been sleeping."
2 Peter 2:1-3
