Loose thy shoes from off thy feet - and give 'em to the poor

I was up early Sunday Morning and turned on the TV.... There was pastor Kerry Shook, Fellowship of the Woodlands, Texas.... and he was talking about a homeless shelter in Houston with which I am familiar.

Long story short, pastor Kerry said that the shelter had told him that, in this economic downturn, they had NO SHOES to give to the homeless people.

At the conclusion of the service, Kerry challenged his people (LARGE congregation) to ... and he emphasized IF YOU FEEL LED.... to come to the altar, take your shoes off, and leave them here. "We'll box them up and take them to the shelter for distribution".

Now, as you could probably tell in another thread I started about shoes (TOTALLY not knowing this was coming up) I don't claim to be a shoe expert. HOWEVER, there were HUNDREDS of people who went to the front of the church, removed their shoes, and set them up on the platform, and there were HUNDREDS of pairs of boots, flip flops, fancy high heels, sneakers, dress shoes - both men and women....

And he said, "as you leave today in your bare feet or your sock feet, you'll know how it feels to a homeless person who has no shoes to walk on the concrete, across the gravel, etc..."

Now, I must admit.. PART of me saw this as "grandstanding" or "gimmick"... but... it got the job done!
