      buttonhole tips?

      Just read this:

      Brilliant Buttonholes
After you have sewn your buttonholes but before you cut them open, try this trick. Squeeze a little seam sealant into the opening of the buttonhole. Make sure that you don’t use too much, or it will take a lot longer to dry. Let it bleed into the buttonhole threads slightly.Once the sealant has dried completely, steam-press it with a press cloth between the jacket and iron. Next, take a buttonhole cutting set, and cut open the center of the buttonhole. You’ve finished! A perfectly professional buttonhole!

      Re: buttonhole tips?

When I do buttonholes, I very lightly iron a small scrap of lightweight fusible interfacing to the back. I sew the buttonhole, pull up the edges of the interfacing, and trim it even with the holes--you can stretch the interfacing a little to make the stitching holes larger and cut right through the holes without nicking the threads.

Then I cut through the button hole. It works fine for me.

I'm going to have to try that one you posted, though.

      Re: buttonhole tips?

reminds me of what my dad used to do (sort of on topic) for adding belt holes. He would heat up a needle (or small knife) on top of the stove and when it became really hot he would place it on the leather belt and make a new notch. melted right through.
