The ongoing disastrous failure that is the Republican "healthcare" bill is playing out, but it makes you wonder, what did Ryan actually expect to achieve with it? Obviously Trump himself has no clue when it comes to policy ("Nobody knew healthcare could be so complicated") But what was Ryan playing at by trying to push a plan that is hated across the board and which reveals that the Republicans to be bumbling fools on the topic of healthcare?
Options include:
- Ryan is just not smart. Somebody gave him this bill and he naively thought people wouldn't barf at it.
- Ryan floated this bill knowing it was a loser, for some sort of political motive (what?)
- Trump flatly demanded that Ryan produce an Obamacare replacement, not realizing that the Republicans didn't have anything, and Ryan bowed to that pressure.
- Ryan's just desperate to keep his speaker-ship and to try to keep the Republican party from fracturing due to Trump, the tea-party, and 'mainstream' Republicans pulling in 3 different directions.
