      John 17:3-5

It always confuses me why some LDS members use this verse as proof against the trinity. I've addressed it before in other threads, but the LDS never tell me where my interpretation is wrong.

      John 17:3-5
3Now this is eternal life: that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent. 4I have brought you glory on earth by completing the work you gave me to do. 5And now, Father, glorify me in your presence with the glory I had with you before the world began.

      1) Are the LDS members saying that Christ is not true God ? The other option is that the LDS is saying that Jesus is a false god by using this scripture.

      2) Jesus was incarnated as a man. A Jewish, monotheistic man. Wouldnt it be proper for him to point to the " only true God ? " Jesus would not make a statement supporting polytheism, but it seems he is not trying to deny his own deity with this statement.

      3) Isnt this verse putting equality between the Father and Jesus ? Jesus is saying that salvation comes from knowing the only true God AND Jesus Christ. Not Moses and the only true God. Not Peter and the only true God. Plus look at verse 5. Jesus is saying that he has the same glory as the Father. A prophet of God could not claim such a thing.

I have more to add, but first I would like to know from the LDS how they think this verse disproves the trinity ? Or what is the point Jesus is trying to make ?

      Interesting
      2 Tim 2:1-2

Thou therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also.

      Re: John 17:3-5

This is one passage that people try to use to deny the deity of Christ. I always wonder way LDS members like LDSTrue always throw this verse out and say " see, Jesus said he has a God, so he can't be God."

I see this as a good opportunity to look at this passage and see the point Jesus is conveying.

LDS members, do you think this verse is meant to deny the deity of Christ ?

We believe Christ is deity. Always has been since he was the first born of the Father in the spirit world. Long before our creation took place.

Why would we think to find scriptures that deny the deity of Jesus Christ?
