America, a Socialist Oligarchy?
Do you believe America is headed towards a socialist oligarchy? If so, how long do you believe we have before the transition is complete? What elements are required to secure the transition (i.e. would economic collapse, pandemic, ecological disaster, large-scale natural disasters, terrorism, etc. help give more power to a few)?
What recent events do you believe supports or refutes the belief that America is headed towards this kind of government? I've not spent time in this forum so I don't know what kind of people post here. I am greatly interested in speaking with people educated in history and politics.
Thank you.

Well, I think the few should be in control. The masses are generally just too dumb to be trusted....

My most recent faith struggle is not one of intellect. I don't really do that anymore. Sooner or later you just figure out there are some guys who don't believe in God and they can prove He doesn't exist, and some other guys who can prove He does exist, and the argument stopped being about God a long time ago and now it's about who is smarter, and honestly, I don't care. ~ Don Miller Blue Like Jazz

Re: America, a Socialist Oligarchy?
Really?
What do you say to the idea of a republic? If we stay committed to law, then we have protection from the whims of a few and also protection from the problems you mention, which, I assume, you mean are implicit in a democracy. I think the founding fathers were far wiser than today's politicians ignorantly or knowingly realize. I think we are in danger in a democracy and I think that is why the founders set us up with a republic.

Re: America, a Socialist Oligarchy?
"Years ago, I mean decades ago, I read a quote about politicians performing quid pro quo favors for campaign cash, and whether or not we could prove it. The guy who was quoted opined that it was difficult to determine. He noted that in many cases, the payoff might not take the form of votes on legislative action -- those might be detectable, and so are avoided -- but could take subtler forms, like the question that is never asked at a hearing.
The media's doing a terrific job of not asking questions it doesn't want to know the answer to. It doesn't ask these questions in bulk, and the great volume of questions it doesn't ask makes it cheap to not ask questions.
And it passes these savings on to you, the customer." Ace

Re: America, a Socialist Oligarchy?
I believe they tried to set up a republic, which is different than an oligarchy. What do you think of this?

From darkness into light
Like icy shards from the broken mirror within
Melting in the tears from the stars in your eyes
Shining still brighter, still fainter through the darkness

Surely for your lifeblood I will demand an accounting. I will demand an accounting from every animal. And from each man, too, I will demand an accounting for the life of his fellow man.
Whoever sheds the blood of man, by man shall his blood be shed;
for in the image of God has God made man.
Up to this point in the Bible there was no mention of any form of government.
Soon after this edict from God, we see that mankind has its first kingdom.
Cush was the father of Nimrod, who grew to be a mighty warrior on the earth. He was a mighty hunter before the Lord; that is why it is said, "Like Nimrod, a mighty hunter before the Lord."
The first centers of his kingdom were Babylon, Erech, Akkad and Calneh, in Shinar. Genesis 10:8-10The End From The Beginning by Ty Aldrich is available at www.lulu.com/content/2614100 It is NOW AVALABLE through Barnes and Noble in ebook format.
