      America, a Socialist Oligarchy?

Do you believe America is headed towards a socialist oligarchy? If so, how long do you believe we have before the transition is complete? What elements are required to secure the transition (i.e. would economic collapse, pandemic, ecological disaster, large-scale natural disasters, terrorism, etc. help give more power to a few)?

What recent events do you believe supports or refutes the belief that America is headed towards this kind of government? I've not spent time in this forum so I don't know what kind of people post here. I am greatly interested in speaking with people educated in history and politics.

      Thank you.

Well, I think the few should be in control. The masses are generally just too dumb to be trusted....

      Really?

What do you say to the idea of a republic? If we stay committed to law, then we have protection from the whims of a few and also protection from the problems you mention, which, I assume, you mean are implicit in a democracy. I think the founding fathers were far wiser than today's politicians ignorantly or knowingly realize. I think we are in danger in a democracy and I think that is why the founders set us up with a republic.

I agree they were wise. Is it really your position that they represented the average citizen and weren't in fact really a kind of oligarchy themselves?

"Years ago, I mean decades ago, I read a quote about politicians performing quid pro quo favors for campaign cash, and whether or not we could prove it. The guy who was quoted opined that it was difficult to determine. He noted that in many cases, the payoff might not take the form of votes on legislative action -- those might be detectable, and so are avoided -- but could take subtler forms, like the question that is never asked at a hearing.

The media's doing a terrific job of not asking questions it doesn't want to know the answer to. It doesn't ask these questions in bulk, and the great volume of questions it doesn't ask makes it cheap to not ask questions.

And it passes these savings on to you, the customer." Ace

I believe they tried to set up a republic, which is different than an oligarchy. What do you think of this?

Socialist oligarchy = a fancy term for government. All governments are socialist oligarchies.

Isn't that just the truth! Any government -- independent of it's members' ideological platform before becoming government -- will try to maximize its power over the people. The devil invented governments, and they all do his work.

Men invented government because God required mankind to be accountable for the bloodshed of his fellow man. See Genesis 9:5-6

Surely for your lifeblood I will demand an accounting. I will demand an accounting from every animal. And from each man, too, I will demand an accounting for the life of his fellow man.
      Whoever sheds the blood of man, by man shall his blood be shed;
for in the image of God has God made man.

Up to this point in the Bible there was no mention of any form of government.
Soon after this edict from God, we see that mankind has its first kingdom.

Cush was the father of Nimrod, who grew to be a mighty warrior on the earth. He was a mighty hunter before the Lord; that is why it is said, "Like Nimrod, a mighty hunter before the Lord."
The first centers of his kingdom were Babylon, Erech, Akkad and Calneh, in Shinar. Genesis 10:8-10
