The JRR Tolkien Audio Collection - Tolkien Reads LOTR

      http://www.amazon.com/J-R-R-Tolkien-...d=ZFGT8M4AV020

For generations, J.R.R. Tolkien's words have brought to thrilling life a world of hobbits, magic, and historic myth, woken from its foggy slumber within our minds. Here, he tells the tales is his own voice.

Of historic note, these selections from The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings are based on a tape recording Tolkien made in 1952, which inspired him to continue his own quest to see his vision in print. Also included is a never-published poem, "The Mirror of Galadriel," originally intended for inclusion in the trilogy, yet edited out. And, finally, Tolkien's son, Christopher, reads selections from his father's The Silmarillion, the epic foundation upon which rests the whole of his work.
If you're interested, you can buy an audiobook of the Master himself reading his magum opus. Apparently, these were recorded even before the books were published, so don't expect top audio quality. One of these days, I'll have to get this.

Then Morgoth turned upon Húrin, and he said: 'Fool, little among Men, and they are the least of all that speak! Have you seen the Valar, or measured the power of Manwë and Varda?
Do you know the reach of their thought? Or do you think, perhaps, that their thought is upon you, and that they may shield you from afar?'

'I know not,' said Húrin. 'Yet so it might be, if they willed. For the Elder King shall not be dethroned while Arda endures.'

I actually have these on cassette tape. They're good and very interesting him read in Elvish and all those things.

The Silmarillion part is basically an edited version of the Beren and Luthien story.

      An excellent purchase though.

Can you post the poem that was left out of the trilogy?

Sorry I didn't see this before.

Umm, which poem are you referring to?

I couldn't post them from the cassette tapes, no. You can try looking up "Tolkien Reads" on youtube and it'll find you a few things including Tolkien reading "Riddles in the Dark" in which you get to hear him do his own vocal take on Gollum.
