That was hardly clear in the OP.

Then Morgoth turned upon Húrin, and he said: 'Fool, little among Men, and they are the least of all that speak! Have you seen the Valar, or measured the power of Manwë and Varda?
Do you know the reach of their thought? Or do you think, perhaps, that their thought is upon you, and that they may shield you from afar?'
'I know not,' said Húrin. 'Yet so it might be, if they willed. For the Elder King shall not be dethroned while Arda endures.'

The ECF didn't hesitate to graphically expose the Bacchanalia and Dionysian rites to ridicule.

Re: Um, Just How Prudish Were the Early Church Fathers?
This question is fun because it's so ambiguous—early church writers were not necessarily in agreement about sex as a sinful thing. David Frankfurter wrote a fun article for the Journal of Early Christian Studies about a year ago in which he discussed martyrdom stories as a kind of pornography! (And with all of those beautiful pure ladies getting stripped down for the arena, he was onto something.) Heresiographers both deplore sexual immorality and take great pleasure in describing the unholy liaisons of heretics. For a pretty sick read, try Epiphanius' Panarion 26, the chapter on "the gnostics." You might also want to look up the disagreements between Jerome and Jovinian, which centered on virginity, marriage, etc.
There should be a book out in the next couple of years that discusses the resurrected body and early disagreements about whether that body will be equipped with sexual hardware—disagreements that were closely tied to various fathers' views of procreation, sex, and sinfulness.
If you are looking for a general book about early Christian thinkers and the body, the best place to start is with Peter Brown's The Body and Society, which is possibly common enough to be found at a non-academic library and which, if the library is no help, can be purchased for about $25.
Hope this helps! I'm new here, so I hope to be making some theology geek friends. :)

Well I am happy to meet geeks of all stripes, but let's leave the horniness out until we know each other a little better. ;)

Calling Manwe a horny doofus is a running joke we have here...he's engaged in an intense, friendly rivalry with a member named ApologiaPhoenix because of that.
Our most popular running joke, btw, involves good-naturedly teasing mossrose about her vast age. Here's a link to a thread made specifically for that purpose. Feel free to join in!

Yeah. I learned if it doesn't make sense, it's an in-joke. most are easy to kind of figure out...eventually.
