Female - Xmas & Hanukkahwax on fabric
I spilled candle wax on my bedspread. Any suggestions about how to clean it?

What kind of fabric is it?

Re: wax on fabric
Not sure if the type of fabric makes a difference, but I've gotten wax off of a T-shirt by laying a paper bag on the spot and ironing over it. The paper absorbs the wax.
I think I washed it with some Dawn on the remaining oily areas afterward...
Good luck!

Re: wax on fabric
I have a product called BioAd, and I have soaked cotton with wax drippings in the BioAd. I think there are some sort of enzymes in the product that work on various stains and so on.
It seems to cause the wax to lift out of the fabric. Then I used a sharp knife (or a nail file or some such) to scrape the wax off after the fabric dried. Then I removed the residue with paper towels and an iron, much as faithymom uses the paper bags.Last edited by mossrose; August 10th 2010 at 05:10 PM.

Yeah, I forgot to mention scraping as much off as you can before ironing...

It is a slightly stuffed quilt-style bed spread. I don't know what type of fabric. That is not clear to me. The tag says wash warm and large capacity dryer.

Anastasia-- if you are successful in removing the candle drippings, perhaps you could start a "Wax Off Fabric" thread.

Re: wax on fabric
Try the scraping first.
I am hesitant to suggest the ironing trick with something that is quilted or more than 1 layer of fabric. The heat from the iron will melt the wax down into the other layers.
Do you have a home economist that you can call or email in your area that might be able to give you some ideas?
The BioAd worked really well for me.
