Ted Stevens, former Senator from Alaska dies in plane crash.
According to CBS News, MSNBC, Fox, Yahoo, and many other sources, former Alaskan Senator who introduced the term "a series of tubes" to the innernets, has been killed in a plane crash in Aleknagik, Alaska.
Also on the plane was a former NASA administrator, Sean O'Keefe, who's condition seems to be unknown at the moment, along with seven other people, at least four of whom also died.

Re: Ted Stevens, former Senator from Alaska dies in plane cr
Stevens was essentially a good egg for a conservative Republican. I believe he actually may have voted against both Clinton impeachment articles, but he did vote against one at least. He had the misfortune to be running his last race as a quite elderly and out of touch incumbent in an anti-incumbent year and to have been between his beribery conviction and its reversal. However, he showed well how he loved Alaska and brough the bacon home there.
Unfortunately he will be known for his assertion "the internet is made of a series of tubes" and as such an anachronism, but, he represented his state well for 40 years. Someday we'll be old and out of touch too.

Re: Ted Stevens, former Senator from Alaska dies in plane cr
Despite his foibles toward the end, without him Alaska would be in a lot worse shape than it is today. He truly did so much for our schools, roads, and infrastructure in general. Memory eternal.
My prayers for his family and the others....the compass of existence held more than my text-books had revealed, more than I had ever dreamed of. In short I lost my superiority, and this, though I was not then aware of it, is the first step towards finding God.-A.J. Cronin

"Years ago, I mean decades ago, I read a quote about politicians performing quid pro quo favors for campaign cash, and whether or not we could prove it. The guy who was quoted opined that it was difficult to determine. He noted that in many cases, the payoff might not take the form of votes on legislative action -- those might be detectable, and so are avoided -- but could take subtler forms, like the question that is never asked at a hearing.
The media's doing a terrific job of not asking questions it doesn't want to know the answer to. It doesn't ask these questions in bulk, and the great volume of questions it doesn't ask makes it cheap to not ask questions.
And it passes these savings on to you, the customer." Ace

Re: Ted Stevens, former Senator from Alaska dies in plane cr
Please explain what you meant. I suppose to me any Senator who voted to convict Clinton on both articles of impeachment would be a "bad egg," but that's hardly remarkable. I'm not sure, but I believe the usual liberal Republicans, Snowe, Collins, and Specter (then a Republican), voted no on both, and enough moderates voted no on one of the other for the express purpose of insuring there was a bipartisan cast to the no votes. There never was a serious effort to impeach him; it was just political posturing from the get-go. Why do you find my position "interesting"?

Re: Ted Stevens, former Senator from Alaska dies in plane cr
To be fair, Palin had the highest approval ratings in Alaskan history until she was picked for the VP slot. then partisan hacks got involved. Otherwise, her approval was over 85%. Stevens at his best was in the low 70s.
So if you asked Alaskans before the VP pick, nearly everyone would have said that Palin was better than Stevens, though not by much. For true conversion, click here.

Re: Ted Stevens, former Senator from Alaska dies in plane cr
That does not necessarily follow. Stevens brought home the bacon to Alaska. Palin's primary contribution to the local economy has been due to tabloid reporters and papperazi jetting up to Anchorage and taking a puddle jumper over to Wasilla hoping to get a shot of Bristol shooting the finger or of Trig with boogers coming out of his nose. The comparison is one of apples and oranges. To compare the two, the question would have to be phrased "what's better, a Senator who brings projects and federal money to Alaska or a Governor who misuses her office and commits fiduciary improprieties?"

Unfortunately Stevens will be remembered by the American public as the politician associated with that infamous "bridge to nowhere!"
