Uhhh, male circumcision is part of adulthood rite passages in Africa and has been for millenia.

Granted it happens when the boys are in their mid-late teens rather when they're 8 days old (and a several initiates die each year from infections from the more dodgey procedures)

I didn't know that but I can see how it could be. However, the focus here is on infant circumcision; though your exception is noted.
